Review 1 of 5

Price Paid:  $0.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 Mcintosh MX4000

Summary:
This Head unit is about the closest you''ll get to a high end preamp for your car. It rivals the many high end home preamps. So if you want TRUE HiFidelity in your car, and enjoy detail in your music. The you''ll definetly want this deck.

Strengths:
analog control knobs. separate dual 24 bit D/A converter.

Weaknesses:
no option for frequencies adjustment.

Review 2 of 5

Summary:
This is the best souding car audio head unit I've ever heard -- period! It is NOT identical to the Clarion 9575 (the MX406 IS identical to the Clarion DRX 9255; both are great). It is pricey, but its worth the cost. It immediately improved my system. The timbre of the music seemed to warm, the soundstage seemed to deepen -- the music I listen to (Jazz, Classical, R&B and Rock)just sounded "natural". With well recorded source material, in fact, it seems transparent.
I would reccomend this unit to anyone looking for the ultimate in sound quality.

Review 3 of 5

Summary:
The deck is great. The sound quality is grreat. the tuner picks up stations that I've not been able to listen to before. It doesn't have all the flash of other head units, but if you love the music---this is the unit for you.

Summary:
A great deck, however you're better off spending about a grand less for the Clarion 9575. Very same deck, you just pay more for the McIntosh name. 5 stars fo perfomance, 3 stars for the price.
