from Best Buy Year / Model Reviewed: I drive a Mazda 626 Strengths: Tuner is magnificent
CDs don't skip, even on bumpy roads
Sound quality is excellent
Efficient display
Ergonomically superior
Equilizer presetting selections Weaknesses: The display is bright during night driving - it doesn't dim along with the rest of your instrumentation. I was a bit concerned at first, but then I realized that when driving I didn't notice it at all. Summary: I wanted a functional CD receiver with excellent radio reception, a CD player that doesn't skip, that was easy to use, and sounded great. The DEH1400 met all my qualifications and has the best reputation of the low cost CD recievers.
In particular, I like that button layout is easy to understand and use without glancing at the unit while driving. It's also easy to switch between radio and CD, something to look for when buying a radio, as it turns out. The display is bright, uncluttered, and easy to read, the equilizer easy to understand and adjust, and the CD player doesn't skip.
This pioneer was hands down the best reciever in the $125 to $175 price range.
I paid $42 for installation, including tax - Best Buy had a free labor deal running, but i paid for the wire harness ($15), materials fee ($4), and speaker savers ($20). I didn't need the trim kit, which runs about $15 to 25, apparently. Similar Products Used: i also looked into the Kenwood KDC119 and KDC217. I found their displays difficult to read and the ease of use to be inferior to that of the Pioneer. the Kenwoods had too many small buttons. plus to s
