Review 1 of 16

Price Paid:  $365.00 from Local Dealer (big mi

Year / Model Reviewed:
 2002 Pioneer DEH-7400 MP

Strengths:
Nice clear sound, puts out lots of power to your speakers and Provides a sound that i havent seen matched in many decks. Loads of options and Adjustments. From your basic Fade and Blance to complete Subwoofer control, Even the ability to change the direction in which you subs are punching. And obviously the most noticable on the showroom floor is the looks, this thing is beautiful.

Weaknesses:
the time in between mp3 tracks. And i also find that the buttons to switch tracks sometimes are a bit of a pain to use.

Summary:
Been involved in Car Audio for just over a year now and this was my second ever head Unit. I decided to make the Plunge and go full Mp3 and where is a better place to start than Pioneer. Too bad i had to buy it from a dealer though. An excellent deck, a little slow on the MP3 tracks, but im not picky.

Review 2 of 16

Price Paid:  $260.00 from cardiscountstereos.c

Year / Model Reviewed:
 2003 DEH P7400MP

Strengths:
- plays MP3s - clear music - nice display and design

Weaknesses:
- 4-5 seconds loading between tracks (only for MP3 discs) - guess that's it

Summary:
I dont know why but I seem to like Pioneer more than any other. Anyway, installing the receiver into my car was an easy task (just hope it's harder to get it out than it is to put it in) all I needed was a wire harness to connect it to my car and everything worked perfectly. First impressions, well I was amazed at first sight when I saw how nice the organic display was. Although it could have looked a lot better if the organic display had some color to it, you'll mostly see green. The facepalte of the receiver also has a nice design, that's one of the reasons why I bought it. The sound of the receiver is very clear and with the EQ options the sound is good. My car only has 2 speakers mounted on the sides of the door and so the quality of the sound may not be as good as if I had 4 speakers or more, but still only with my pair of 3 way 200 watt max Pioneer speakers the sound is still very loud and clear. The receiver has many features but the most important one for me is having MP3 player capabilities. I can put an average of 170 songs into 1 disc, I'm just happy to not be carrying around 10 to 20 CDs with me all the time when 1 disc can do the job of 9 or 10 regular CDs. Although the receiver does take some time to skip to the next track, it takes 4 or 5 seconds to load between tracks but I'd rather it be that then having to change the CD every 17 to 18 songs. Overall a good buy, I find myself wanting to drive my car more just to listen to my songs. Nice sound, nice display, and an easy install goes for an almost perfect system. The included carrying case for the faceplate is a plus because I sure dont want that thing to be scratched.

None, I'm pleased with this one already. I'll only buy another kind if I get a new car.

Review 3 of 16

Price Paid:  $230.00 from ebay

Year / Model Reviewed:
 2002 DEH-7400MP

Strengths:
Sound quality. MP3 playback. Looks. DISPLAY!

Weaknesses:
Ok, here is what bothers me. The MP3 control organizes the folders in the most retarded order possible. It goes in order of folder level, meaning all top level folders, then second level folders, etc. So if I have folders with music and subfolders in them, I will here the music in all the main folders before the subfolders. The second problem is the mp3 delay. While I don't mind the delay in playing, I would like to be able to scan through song titles. It takes 4 seconds to see the title making it extremely tedious to find a single song on a disc with a couple hundred files. You could put all songs in folders, but then you are faced with the stupid folder organization. You can't win, you just have to put it on random and deal with it. Consequently, I am selling this unit.

Summary:
The Pioneer is a very sleek looking, elegant, great sounding, and powerful head unit. The Pioneer has the best display of any head unit I have ever seen. Also, the SQ features are far beyond any non-audiophile or competition setup would need. However, I bought this unit for MP3 playback capability, and although it plays flawlessly with all my music and sounds spectacular even with my stock speakers (MX-6 LS), there are a few fatal flaws with the controls.

Review 4 of 16

Price Paid:  $253.00 from Etronics.com

Year / Model Reviewed:
 Pioneer DEH-7400MP

Strengths:
features up the butt cool display remote control

Weaknesses:
2 pre outs instead of 3 mp3 lag between tracks

Summary:
this is a sweet mp3/cd player. it has tons of features and the display is cool to. the high pass filter setting is cool and helps out a lot when using speakers that can't go that low in frequency. the remote is nice to, pretty small and helps keep your eyes on the road. the mp3 delay is kind of annoying, although most, if not all, mp3 players do that. also, having 2 amp pre outs ( front and rear/sub ) kinda messed my system up a bit, i have to run the rear speakers off deck power to add a sub, but its not a huge weakness. if i had to do it again, i might have bought the premier 740mp, which has 3 pre outs, but for the price i paid, i am pleased and impressed.

Review 5 of 16

Price Paid:  $339.00 from American

Year / Model Reviewed:
 Pioneer DEH-7400MP

Strengths:
Tons of features, cool display, flawless cd-r play, good power, and great sound

Weaknesses:
MP3 part slow, sometimes it doesn't pick up the song (may be my unit though). Also, my display inverts colors every ten seconds or so (also my unit).

Summary:
I bought this deck because of the Pioneer name and because it was the first one in this area that could play MP3 cd's.
