Price Paid:  $200.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 2001

Strengths:
amazing sound, fully adjustable EQ. powerful

Weaknesses:
I have a little trouble putting the face plate on but i should get better as i use it more

Summary:

best bang for your buck. i'd invest in an extended warranty though because my last pioneer deck stopped taking cds shortly after the 1 year warranty ended. but i still love it!!

Similar Products Used:
Sony xplod 5050x - sucks. i just returned that god forsaken thing to get this pioneer. Pioneer hands down.

Review 3 of 19

Price Paid:  $260.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 4050

Strengths:
The EEQ is great
Face is good.. I've not had trouble in sun like others.. maybe tint helps
Sound, absolutely brilliant
FIE .. its good say if you have bigger back speakers
DFS Alarm, its handy.. and can be expanded

Weaknesses:
I want the attenuator function on the deck too!
Nothing much else

Summary:
I would reccomend to anyone with the money, they do have a bit of a price premium due to the extra features. If you aren't going to buy a cd changer and amps etc.. then you could go a cheaper deck for sure.. but you might miss the sound, the internal amp is great.

If you have the money, this is a brilliant deck to expand on, i use it with stock speakers as I'm in the first category but thought i would expand.. it still sounds good as far as I'm concerned.

The other good thing for me is it plays every cdr type i've tried as well as most cdrw..

really you can't do better for the price i reckon

Similar Products Used:
Maybe the very latest sony's.. they sound similar, but the EEQ has it all over the other similar priced decks

Review 4 of 19

Price Paid:  $130.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 Pioneer DEH-4100

Strengths:
I like what matters, and that is the sound quality. Really clean bass, nice treble. EQ is really easy to use. It has a really nice display (if you like the flashy stuff [which i don't, but it's nice anyway]). Overall, it's great.

Weaknesses:
I don't like what I would have never imagined to be a problem. When you're listenig to it really loud, and you turn off the car. Later you come back and turn it on, and the sound goes BAM. My stock unit slowly faded in so it wouldn't blow the speakers. You have to turn it down before you turn off the car. Pain in the ass. I also don't like the flashy stuff (hehe). And it's kinda hard to read in direct sunlight.

Summary:
I'd recommend it if you don't mind turning it down before you turn off your car (unless you want to risk blowing your speakers and your eardrums), especially for the price I got it at. It brought my stock speakers to life.

Similar Products Used:
Stock Honda Unit (Alpine). It's better except that the stock unit fades in. (See above).

Review 5 of 19

Price Paid:  $210.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 P4100

Strengths:
Great readout in direct California sunlight with sunroof fully open (unlike the 4000)
The EQ
The Mosfet amp
The gimmicky remote (it comes in handy especially when waxing)

Weaknesses:
The slight clutter of the button
Range of the remote
flimsy feeling faceplate

Summary:
Had this system installed only a week ago to replace my stolen system. Got it installed professionally which really helps since all the wires were cut pretty bad. The Mosfet amp is pretty amazing considering it is built into the unit. The power is more than adequate for me since i have a very sensitive ear. Base power is quite good with OEM speakers and tweeters. The great EQ, best one i have seen for this money. You can do more with the EQ on this unit than you can on some home entertainment system. I was afraid of the readout of the LCD, but was told the 4100 had that solved. It was, readout is almost like printed on colors in direct california sunlight (and we all know how bright that can be). The cd is awsome, had not skipped yet even with my driving. Don't know how radio really sounds since my antenna mast got cut off, but it get's good reception nevertheless. WOuld recommend this unit to everyone for the price, can't be beat.
