This head unit was very easy to understand, not too many features to get confused about, but just enough to keep u busy. The CD player was great, but mine fried, and pioneer won't warranty it because they claim it's customer abuse. I wired everything correctly, it all worked for a few days, then suddenly it started to smoke, and then the fuse popped. Pioneer isn't living up to their warranty.

Strength:

Powerful (50Wx4) Backlit display makes it easy to see at night Removable faceplate Sounds incredible Great EQ Too many features to count It just looks good.

Weakness:

None that I know of. As for the faceplate problem, well I've never owned a car cd player w/detachable faceplate, but it's no problem to me. Perhaps everyone else here lacks coordination, or maybe I'm just special...

Simply put, this is one of the best purchases for a cd player that you could possibly get. Its powerful, great looking, durable, and "hard-working" (when off roading at 30+ mph, cd's don't skip). This cd player is absolutely great, and a friend of mine apparently got this for $99. Most of the no-name brands run for that kind of cost, but here you're getting a well known and trusted brand - Pioneer. I've got mine hooked up to an Alpine T-130 amp (90Wx2) and it bottoms out my Pioneer 8" subs at less than half volume!

Strength:

Power, lights up at night, ease of installation - very basic, ease of controls.

Weakness:

The anti theft face plate sucks! I thought I broke it the first time I took it off. Needless to say, it will be coming off only when I'm in the city.

I bought this head deck to go into my Jeep. I am limited on space so I needed a deck that was inexpensive yet would push my speakers without distiotion. This unit is great! Love the remote control too. I have a Kenwood Exceleron in my Z-28 which I paid twice as much for (actually more than twice as much) and except for more bells and whistles on the Kenwood, the Pioneer actually outperforms the Kenwood head to head. I don't seen to have any heat sink problems (common in Kenwoods and Sony's) and it can take the rough riding of the jeep with limited skipping. Pioneer is the way to go for affordable quality.

Kenwood, other Pioneer head decks, Blaupunkt (ranks right up there with Jensen).

I was using the DEH-2100 then it was stolen. I've replaced it with the DEH-3400. I was very satisfied. Good looks, but most important I was very satisfied of the quality. The only problem is adding the face back. A little tricky.

Strength:

Looks + Power

Weakness:

As other ... a little bit difficult to put the face back.

I had DEH-3100 for a couple years before it was stolen. I replaced with 3400. The new 3400 has better looks, comes with a remote. I found that 3400 seems to have a bit more powerful than 3100 though not as sweet as 3100. I'd say, it's a best buy medium performance CD-receiver.

I had a JVC deck with was sweet, but was stolen, so I decided to get a Pioneer. I'm not disapointed at all, great features, easy to use, love the remote. Over all a great deck for the price. Thats $249cad.

Strength:

As i have no plans to ad external amp , this cd player has ample on board power to my stock speakers sing . Mosfet circuitry is a huge plus and 50x4 is more than sufficient for me . Pre-outs there just in case . Handy remote for layin back at the drive-in theater etc . Sound quality and cd playback is certainly better than competitive units in same price class .

Weakness:

Removing detachable face is not a problem , replacing is indeed a bit finicky .

A great mid-level car audio cd player and a huge improvement in sound quality over stock cd player in 2001 Honda Civic . Lots of features , great display in day or nite and of course excellent radio reception on Fm band .

Strength:

Rotary volume control, looks and performance.

Weakness:

Detachable face is a bit awkward to reattach.

I upgraded from A DEH 2100 which I had for over a year. It is a great unit but I upgraded mainly because this new style has a rotary volume control, which I prefer over the electronic volume control. This unit has all the features you''ll find in a head unit at this price. The new style has a flip down face to access the cd insert. This allows the face to be less cluttered and cleaner looking. I found this feature to be easy to use. It also comes with a remote control, however, I have no reason to use it. The only downside from the flip down face is that the detachable face is a bit awkward to reattach to the deck, especially at night. The deck performs very well, is very powerful and clean sounding. It has a few built in EQ modes and can take a custom EQ setting. It also has 3 loudness modes. You should have no problem finding a setting to suit your taste. This unit also plays CDRs flawlessly. I burn a lot of cds and they all play perfectly with no skipping. The tuner is above average.
