from hi-volume in killeen Strengths: one-of-a-kind car receiver. dolby "B". detachable faceplate. it has the amps as the power to please. Weaknesses: it's a time bomb waiting for your factory warranty to expire. neither the excd-1000 or the eax-510 (cd changer) play CD-Rs/RWs. sanyo customer support personnel are ignorant, misdirectional, and all-around unhelpful. since it is one-of-a-kind, the unit is too expensive. Summary: i first discovered the EXCD-1000 as i needed both cd and cassette in one single din unit. i accepted the fact that it did not have a remote, count CD track time, and has a somewhat gaudy display-- but for the money i paid it should play CD-Rs! (CD track time may be seen by rewinding or fast-forwarding) (sanyo support says it will play cd-r's recorded at 2X speed or slower). it is too bad that to this day not jvc, sony, pioneer, or any other flagship brand has fit cd/cassette into a single DIN. almost immediately after my 1-year parts/labor warranty expired, the lcd display died on me. if i wanted to see what station or function i was listening to-- i would have to shine a light on the faceplate. i took the stereo to a sanyo service center and the gentleman told me that the back-lit display goes out on the excedio more so than any other unit. on the upside, its overall playback is still satisfactory. the tape player on the EXCD-1000 has never disappointed me. buy this receiver if you're old school & new school like me; don't buy it if you are willing to wait for competition to knock 1000 out the box.
