Price Paid:  $450.00 from Retail store

Year / Model Reviewed:
2001 Mdx c8500x

Strengths:
Expandable, You can add anything you want almost. Ive had it for a while and im planning on upgrading my speakers and putting in another amp for a sub. Great warranty (I think ES is 5 years) Although I've never had to use it, nor have I had any problems. Also if you want more capacity, it is MD changer compatable(which plays old and new md's), and CD changer compatable. So you can still play Cd's if you have them.

Weaknesses:
A little expencive (at least it used to be). But I think it was worth it, it's been a great radio. Also, I don't think its compatable with the newer format they are using with MD's now. (Although I think the new system is of lower quality (Lp4), so no loss if you want great sounding music; and you can get a MD changer that will play them if you want.)

Summary:
Good overall product, lots of features including 3 4v preouts and a mono sub output. Built in equalizer and you can customize any of the presets in the traditional 8 sections (I think theres 8), which I like the most. If you are satisfied with the 80 (84) minute rating of the older MD's I'd suggest you buy this one to play them. They sound great (better than the new ones in my opinion), especially if you have a digital link and a MD recorder deck at your house. If you absolutely must have the newest technology, or just dont care that much about how the music sounds then by all means get a newer MD player, But I would suggest a Sony ES. Sony is a long standing company and ES products have a great warranty, sometimes outlasting your car.
