from Hippo's - Albany, NY Year / Model Reviewed: 2001 Summary: I've used the 2101 for a coupla weeks now, and I haven't had problems with any "noise" in the level control that a previous reviewer has claimed. Quite the contrary: this is an excellent EQ. If you're getting noise from any potentiometer (rotary gain control), it's most likely a "dirty" or grungy pot. I'd suggest you remove the outer knob, and spray the contacts of the pot with a good electronics tuner/switch cleaner, then work the pot back and forth until the gunk is cleared.
I happened to find this unit at a "clearance sale" price, because a local audio dealer is getting out of that end of the biz, and just concentrating on home theatre - so all of their mobile electronics are going at cost or less. YAY FOR ME! So, I couldn't help but grab an Eclipse 4441 head unit, and a 5083 CD changer while I was there! (I'll post reviews on those units as well. May also be picking up their last Eclipse power amp.)
The 2101's parametric EQ at the low end is very useful, with separate controls for level/Q/frequency; the 18dB/oct., 120Hz high-pass & 90/120Hz low-pass X-over's are fine for my set-up; and the 2101 doesn't take up much space in the dash. The other EQ center frequencies at 250/600/1.5k/4k/10k are good choices, although I'd prefer the last treble freq. at 12k or 16k.
Great EQ, and not a lot of $!! Similar Products Used: ~ Eclipse 4441 cassette/tuner.
