Review 2 of 10

Price Paid:  $900.00 from Stereo Advantage/Wil

Year / Model Reviewed:
2002 CVA-1003

Summary:
After having this CVA-1003 for approximately 6 months, the motorized monitor section failed to open. Luckily, or so I thought, I had purchased a lifetime warranty on this product when I purchased it. I've had this unit in for service three times since I have bought it, and each time the face opens trouble free for about one month after. I return it, the service technicians say it needs a "cleaning" even though gears are grinding inside every time it closes. To top it off, the radio has only one set of preamp outputs, so you'd better have a crossover or something to run a full suite of amplifiers (Honestly, did alpine think they would have a customer that just wanted a $1000 headunit and not want to make a nice sound system???). Once I can attempt to get over the huge waste of money this was, I will look for a clarion unit. Alpine quality has really dropped in the past few years. Gone are the days when they made a product that was superior to Sparkomatic. Don't make the same mistake I did. A free unit is still a ripoff.

Strengths:
The original packaging was nice. I would say that the picture is very clear also, but I only see it for that month after each time it is repaired.

Weaknesses:
Absolutely everything. The built-in amp sounds distorted, there is only one set of pre-outs so no fade or crossover control, all mechanical aspects of this product are sub-par, very very dissapointing in an Alpine product. I am convinced that the design and manufacturing of this paperweight was outsourced to Rampage or some other low-budget Wal-Mart car audio brand.

Similar Products Used:
Bought the equivalent Clarion unit for my other vehicle. Not a problem in the past year, and doesn't appear to be developing one either.

Price Paid:  $400.00 from PC Richards

Year / Model Reviewed:
2003 CVA-1003

Summary:
The tv is nice. i had problems wtih the video but i got it fixed. it is nice for a picture but when it comes to subwoofers the control sucks. I read the reviews here on how you cant hook up a ps2 or xbox yes you can just plug the game control wires in the aux inputs and then buy a power inverter to run your game system thats all.

Strengths:
It has a nice picture sounds good.

Weaknesses:
cant run a sound system off of it

Similar Products Used:
i use ps2 as my cd player and dvd player

Review 5 of 10

Price Paid:  $1000.00 from Audio City

Year / Model Reviewed:
2001 CVA-1003

Summary:
I won't recommend this product to anybody, all great things that it gave me is problems, the motorized screen has the worst mechanism. now everytime i wanna pull the screen out, i do it manually, i called alpine services and i was just starting to tell them what my problem is, the guy stopped me and he said that he already know what the problem is, well, he then ask me to just send them the unit and include a money order of $105, they ripping off people by selling cheap products, so consumers will come back and pay them for services.

Strengths:
NONE

Weaknesses:
THE WHOLE UNIT AND ALPINE CUSTOMER SERVICE
