Sometimes will not advise if you are travelling in the opposite direction - the unit gets confused and commands to turn onto an upcoming street which cannot be found in that direction. Summary:
Relatively large touch-sensitive screen make this product potentially easy to use. However, the NV5000 seems to be a Beta test product for Emerson Radio, an electronics company which has produced primarily entertainment electronics such as car stereos, two-way radios, etc.
To date, I have sent the product back to the factory 3 times for service on mostly software/firmware related issues. Now that it is again malfunctioning, I cannot contact the technical support person responsible for the NV5000. The unit boots up and shows the Windows CE operating system screen without running the navigation program.
At present, my NV 5000 is sitting idly on my desktop as a paperweight, since nobody at Emerson will call me to advise how to reinstall the application software which suddenly and mysteriously disappeared.
Besides this latest problem, and the earlier troubles with the software, I have had multiple hardware problems with power supplies and connectors. The unit has been quite a nuisance and only marginally better than printing hard copies of directioins from Yahoo.com and Google maps. Similar Products Used:
This is my first GPS, but I am sorry I did not purchase a unit from a company with more experience in this product area.
