Summary:
As this is the only radar detector that I've had any real experience with, I can't make direct comparisons with others, except a Cobra 6060 that I keep as a back-up. However, I can write a few comments about this detector. I do a lot of highway driving in an area that is often patroled with Ka radar. So far, no tickets as of yet. It has detected Ka at quite far ranges (cars ahead of me being radar'd), allowing me plenty of time to slow down. The features of my 1010 suit me fine, with the exception of the auto-mute, which kicks in too quickly. I always have music playing while driving, and after a few seconds I can no longer hear the warning signals, and have to take my eyes off the road in order to see if I'm still being radar'd. I also think the coiled cord could be a bit longer. From what I can find, it seems that this detector is considered to be a mid-pack performer. Therefore, if one can find one of these new for under $75 or so, it might be worth picking up. However, although I don't plan on replacing mine unless it breaks, once it does I will most likely spend a bit more and buy something rated closer to the high end of the performance scale. I would love to see what a high-end detector does! For a comparison between this detector and the 6060, go to the 6060 listing, where I've left a short review.

Strengths:
Easy to use, works fairly well.

Weaknesses:
None, but you can certainly do better if you are willing to spend more.
