Review 3 of 10

Price Paid:  $130.00 from Stereo West - Lincol

Summary:
I chose these 3-way Eclipses back in about ''97. Not only have I been astounded by their sensitivity (96db - as of 1997) but their stereo imaging, tight mid to upper bass (and, for a test,) bass extension to LOW freq.''s have really placed this `full-range'' pair quite far and in front of the pack. I do agree that a break-in period is beneficial, especially for the tweets. My tastes being broad, the Eclipse 6x9''s never let me down when going from rap/hip-hop to even classical/live recordings. The cones never `broke up'' with Van Halen''s `Balance'' album drum solo; could reproduce the live nuances of Peter Gabriel''s `Biko'', `San Jacinto'' and Sade''s live material among many others... What''s even more rewarding is that I could go from listening to Beethoven to bumpin'' good ol Snoop, Biggy, or, tunes on the radio and still keep the same smile of satisfaction on my face. - A sub is still highly recommended for the bass-heavy if you don''t want to wear out those 6x9''s woofs prematurely. Though hard to contemplate (I never used a sub), they will serve anyone far better when they are allowed to be driven harder with everything except the lower-end (~80Hz on down). Conclusion ---- I''ve had mine for about 5 years now and they''ve given me back alot over those 5. I''m headin'' in to buy a new pair of these (3-ways, NOT point-source) 6x9''s by Eclipse for my new vehicle. Nothing beats this s.q. and overall dynamic handling in this or much higher price ranges.

Strengths:
S.Q. - detailed `live'' reproduction. Rugged - can extend an impressively accurate low-end, mid- and upper-bass response without sounding like they''re crying for help from system tweaking. Efficiency - quite freakin'' loud!

Weaknesses:
While they are 4.5 years old (they''ve seen too much that''s normally reserved for sub output), the only particular remotely worth mentioning is that initial break-in of the set for the tweet.''s sake - then did they fall into line with the rest ot the drivers and made for a great system over the last 4+ years.

Alpine, Bostin Acoustics, Rockford

Review 5 of 10

Price Paid:  $130.00

Summary:
Bought these along with the 8263 to replace the good for nothing OEM speakers. At first the high does sound a little agressive, but after breaking them in, they smooth out quite a bit and become very detail without the roughness. Nice laid back mids and strong bass as stated in in strong point. Also, these speakers have very high sensitivity (96db) so you don't need a high power amp to drive it.

Strengths:
Nice detail high (after break in period), laid back midrange, and strong bass.

Weaknesses:
A little more expensive than competitor's speakers.

Similar Products Used:
Boston, Alpine, etc.
