Review 1 of 5

Price Paid:  $89.00 from Circuit City

Year / Model Reviewed:
 Infinity 552i

Strengths:
Sounded good when new, just not a lot of good bass sound, didn't play bass strong.

Weaknesses:
THEY CRACKED AND BROKE.....TWICE!

Summary:
I am steamed, but I totally understand how it happened. I got 2 of these speakers, Infinity 552i 5-1/4" two-ways, for the rear of my 1992 Toyota Corolla 3 years ago. Two months after having them installed, I noticed that both speakers were cracked. I called Circuit City and they said that Infinity had made a mistake with these speakers, that they failed to "coat them" with some coating, to bring my car in and they would replace them at no cost. I did. Well, they have all cracked to pieces as of about a month ago. I do remember checking them not too long ago and they were fine, but I'm sure it's the sun exposure that got them. Are there any speakers that won't crack after exposure to the sun? The speakers that came with the car had dry-rotted and that's why I bought these Infinity speakers. But I kept watching the white part of the speaker (I know NOTHING about speakers) and noticed they were fine, then about a month ago I looked and they are in pieces, falling apart. I do NOT blare my music or blast my bass and the only thing I can think of is the sun. I tried to remember to cover them, but of course didn't MOST of the time. Any suggestions for my NEXT pair of rear speakers? Thanks a lot in advance.

Review 4 of 5 , from NY

Price Paid:  $100.00 from Crutchfield

Year / Model Reviewed:
 01

Strengths:
sound quality , power handling , appearance , durability

Weaknesses:
no bass ( as expected )

Summary:
Overall, this is an excellent 5 1/4" speaker. Do not expect a lot of bass from them , as they are fairly small, but the sound quality is amazing. They sound great when given midrange and highs, but are stressed with heavy bass. The power handling is good and their appearance is great. The aimable tweeter helps with imaging. IF YOU ARE ABLE TO GET THE 652I SPEAKER ..... IT IS MUCH LOUDER AND HAS MUCH BETTER BASS RESPONSE . It is as good as speakers of this size and price get

Review 5 of 5 , from Baltimore, MD, USA

Price Paid:  $85.00 from Circuit City

Year / Model Reviewed:
 2002

Strengths:
The 30% larger cone is a big bump from last year''s model, they were too tinny sounding, so now after I upgraded, smoother sounds are now present.

Weaknesses:
None really, it was just a pain to run wire from the amp up to the roof of the Cherokee, but the speakers, they rock.

Summary:
Man, place these in the overhead of a Jeep, and you have an awesome sound. The ability to rotate and image the tweeters is pretty nice. It took me about 5 mins to install both speakers. No tweeking was needed for installation. Since my ride is noisy to begin with, I did not go with Dynamat in the rear, and super highend speakers would go to waste with the road noise. Awesome sound, great value, suprising kick from a small driver. Clean, crisp and oh so budget minded.
