Review 1 of 8

Price Paid:  $200.00 from Audio Express

Year / Model Reviewed:
2002 R-type 6 and 1/2

Summary:
Basically, these speakers have amazing sound for the price paid. I listen primarily to rock, new and old, and these speakers perform quite well. I run them off a 600 watt amp which they handle easily at even very loud listening levels. They have great separation of frequencies of all ranges, and yes, they are particularly impressive in the mid to low bass areas. I used to prefer having a sub in my vehicle for full range of sound, but these speakers in the stock front door locations are all I need for normal listening. One note is to make sure whoever installs these speakers takes special care in reducing rattles in your vehicle, these speakers are very powerful and will bring out any door rattles you might have. The silk tweeters, in my opinion, have a very good balance between warm, realistic sound as in vocals and dynamic screaming highs as in a wailing guitar.

Strengths:
1.Great range and separation of frequencies 2.Durability and power handling ability 3.Good speaker for almost any application

Weaknesses:
Larger than standard size and depth can make installation difficult without the proper tools and know-how.

Review 2 of 8

Price Paid:  $150.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
2001 Alpine SPR-175A

Summary:
I think these components have beautiful sound. It's like a concert in a car. I think the people that don't like them have them placed wrong. I have my tweeters surface mounted and my mids in my doors. The highs the tweeters hit are amazing. If needed also the mids can produce some great bass too. Alpine knows whats up.

Strengths:
Everything and not too expensive either.

Weaknesses:
I tried thinking hard to find some weaknesses but I just cant do it.

Review 5 of 8

Price Paid:  $0.00

Summary:
I got the opportunity to use these speakers and a few other component sets in a recent test. I was really expecting great things out of the Type-Rs (After all, my Type-Rs subs are sweet, so the comps should be the same), but I was really dissappointed. While the midbass was one of the best I've heard (Great definition, strong into the lower lower frequencies, low distortion in the lower frequencies), the tweeter really dissappointed me. The tweeter was just awful ... It lacked definition, especially in the high female vocals ... The balance of these components is horrible ...

Strengths:
Excellent midbass driver, crossover technology, nice looks

Weaknesses:
Tweeter lacks definition, harsh highs for a silk tweeter, midbass and tweeter don't match well
