Year / Model Reviewed:
 Blaupunkt PCxt693 3-way speakers

Strengths:
#1 - construction - my PCxt693s consist of bass, mid, & tweeter cones of durable polyprolene. The durability factor put this model over the top of the 6 x 9 Infinity model I was originally looking at. Apparently the Infinity ceramic cones will be the best sounding speakers you'll ever own . . . for about six months until they start cracking. #2 - I love the 3-way sound. This is a very, what's the word I'm looking for, versatile speaker. There is no bass distortion on Rage Against the Machine's 'Renegades of Funk', or the opening Neal Peart drum triplet in Rush's 'One little Victory'. These songs made my factory speakers beg for a quick death. Vocals and high-neck guitar notes also come across crystal-clear. #3 - Mounting. Again, I am presented with many challenges in my Sebring and my speaker choices have to be greatly limited. The PCxt693 worked with little complication top & bottom mount-wise.

Weaknesses:
While I have pointed out the adequacy of the PCxt693 with bass, mid & high notes, there is nothing SPECIAL about any of the above. I have heard other 6 x 9 2 or 3 -way speakers that one could, at least quickly, mistake for kickers. The PCxt693 feels like a sturdy reliable car that you can count on, yet not use to turn heads. In all fairness to the speaker, I do not use an amp and calling something 'reliable' is hardly a knock.

Summary:
I purchased 2 sets (4 speakers) of the Blaupunkt PCxt693 6 x 9 3-way speaker for my 2000 Chrysler Sebring convertible. The speakers are coupled with a powerful (60 watts x 4 max) Jensen cd /casette receiver - the CM7015K (see my review on the CM7015K if you dare). The Blaupunkt PCxt693 has a power rating of 2 - 70 Watts rms and a maximum rating of 210 watts. I don't have an amp or anything else - I hope to someday experiment. There were a few things that led me to the PCxt693: #1 - depth. My Sebring does not allow for any depth greater than 2 7/8, the exact depth of the PCxt693. Even with that, I had some tense moments with the front door and had to cut a little bit of the rubber/plasti lining on the inside of my door. #2 - size. I wanted to stay 6 x 9. I know there are all kinds of adapters available to put 6.5 speakers in 6 x 9 openings, but I can't help but to think there is a dampening effect and you lose vibration in the weak plastic (the only kind I've seen) adapters. So . . . this greatly narrowed my choices.

It's been a long time since I've used another 6 x 9 and I've never used a 3-way. Bottom line on the Blaupunkt PCxt693: you will not be disappointed, but you probably won't be wowed either.

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $0.00 from online

Strengths:
Cheap. Average for the price

Weaknesses:
These speakers dont do anything above Average

Summary:
I have these in the back paired up with 6 1/2 Blaupunkt's up front. The bass is decent and the highs are better than the 6 1/2's, But overall the speaker is just average. Don't amp them and they distort at high volume, but you can't listen to music at high volume anyway.
