2005 p8652

Summary:
After having my 5x7 JBL GTO's in my 2004 Cobra for the past year I have been looking to upgrade my speakers. Now that my 5x7 JBL Power Series speakers are installed, I can give you a proper analysis of how they sound.

WoW! That pretty much sums it up. Comparing the GTO's to the Power Series is like comparing lunch meat to Prime Rib or a V6 to a V8! There is absolutely NO COMPARISON! Keep in mind that I have these speakers hooked up to a Rockford Fosgate P4004 amp., a P2 subwoofer a Clarion deck and Monster Cable/Fosgate wire.

Where do I start? The first thing I noticed was the difference in the clarity and separation of the instruments. The P8652's produce astonishing clarity and a true "studio sound". Superior music reproduction as well as superior sound imaging create euphoria for the listener!!! Unbelievable!!!

Next, the main complaint that I had with the GTO's was the Power handling (or lack thereof). These (P8652) speakers never seem to want to quit! They just keep punishing you with harder and louder (yet perfectly clear) music! That's even more impressive when one considers the fact that I listen to Rock music. A lot of it is "Power Rock" or "Progressive Rock" which is incredibly demanding on both the amplifier and speakers. In short, songs like YYZ (for example) quickly expose whatever limitations a system may have, especially at higher volume levels. I have never experienced such a high quality of car speaker in my life. These are so good and the installer was so impressed by them he ended up ordering two pairs for himself! Incidentally, I have two pairs of these, two in the doors and two in the back. The total cost was $690 (Canadian taxed included). They work out to $300 a pair plus tax.

I could go on and on, but I want to leave you with a thing or two to wrap this review up. Due to the computer controlled outboard crossovers, it is strongly recommended that you have a professional install these babies. Lastly, I would recommend these to anyone who wants to make that step to where few have ventured. The Realm of TRUE "Professional" sound. Yes, the cost is high, but it's like they say "you get what you pay for".

Outstanding product! The folks at JBL should be congratulated on these "cutting edge" speakers!!! I was a little skeptical before, but now I BELIEVE!!!

P.s. Quality sound is a combination of the right Source Unit, Speakers, Quality Wire and Amplifier all working well together.

Strengths:
Superior "Sound Quality/Imaging"
Superior "Instrument Separation"
Superior "Power Handling"
Superior "Bass Reproduction"

Weaknesses:
NONE at all!
