Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $49.00 from Walmar of all places

Strengths:
Tight midbass, clean highs and mids. Strong pioneer build, just listen to rms figures not all that max rating nonsense. Basket drilled with many screw down configurations, perfect for tricking out a smaller design to fit bigger speakers.

Weaknesses:
None as of yet, knock on wood I guess. :)

Summary:
Hey not too shabby!! I expected next to nothing for $49 clearance speakers at Walmart, but these things are great. I am running a pair amped up at 35 clean watts rms, and they sound fantastic. I have a high pass filter on them at 80hz and they bump out the midbass. One reviewer said they were too bright, but compared to my cerwin vegas on the back deck these are a perfect complement. Rounded out with one 10" in the trunk and the system is gold. All my friends think I paid like 3k for this system and it wasn't even a third of that. These speakers sound great turned way up and build a very nice sound stage in the front seats. They are mounted in my doors so you can't see them, but they are sweet looking with a purplish woofer and some crazy spinning tweeter/mid combo. All in all these babies are doing their job perfectly and at $49 you can't go wrong.

Blaupunkt 4", awful sound, didn't even play highs correctly but fit in factory spot.

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $99.00 from Pacific Audio

Year / Model Reviewed:
 2002

Strengths:
Decent bass from 6-1/2" speakers, clear sound and can take being turned up.

Weaknesses:
A little to bright and missing some of that 1/4 high tones that round out the full spectrum of sound. After listening to them, you just realize some portion of the sound spectrum is not all there.

Summary:
Decent speakers, but combined with seperate tweeters are too bright. These speakers would be good in a car that needed some highlights. I had two pair and just changed the front after 8 months to some Polk speakers and am leaving the Pioneers in the backseat. A good combination.

Similar Products Used:
