Price Paid:  $65.00 from eBay

Year / Model Reviewed:
2003 TS-D160R

Strengths:
Have ultra clear and precise mids and highs, but definitely is not lacking in bass. Songs with predominate drum lines sound awesome. Look really sweet if installed in the right interior. Finally they are fairly inexpensive if purchased off the internet.

Weaknesses:
They have distorted bass at times, although only with complex guitar portions. In addition, although it is not really a huge weakness, it is something to be aware of. IMHO the RMS rating is low. I would think that Pioneer could do better then 60 watts RMS for their top of the line co-axle speaker, but like I said though, not a huge problem.

Summary:
About 6 months ago I installed these speakers into the rear of my car. Right from the beginning I was impressed with the sound quality these speakers possessed. The highs were very clear and crisp, while the mids have excellent tone as well. In addition I was impressed with the amount of bass these speakers produced. It too was accurate and hit fairly well (remember they are only 6.5, not subs). I was especially impressed with their ability to accurately reproduce drum beats. As previously mentioned in other posts drum solos are awesome with these speakers. In addition to their sound quality, these speakers look pretty sweet too. Although realize the woofer is a pail yellow so it may not go well with all interiors. One problem I have noticed though that the bass will become unclear during quick or complicated guitar portions. I have particularly noticed this problem when listening to music by say POD or somebody of that genre. In addition, I am afraid that because of the design of the speaker cover’s design sun light will deteriorate the woofer and tweeter. I am unsure if Pioneer has checked into possibility, but something to think about. Again, I do not know if this will become a problem over time or not. Finally, please save yourself some money and buy them off the internet. Do not go out and pay the 150 when you can get them for half that.

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $0.00

Strengths:
Exceptional mid-bass to mid-highs Punchy bass Clearly defined highs

Weaknesses:
slightly muddy bass on complex bassy tracks

Summary:
I've currently got these speakers as rears, mounted in the parcel tray. Forst thing I noticed about these speakers were their incredible ability to pick up tom work on the drums. Drum solos sound awesome with these speakers. Highs are clearly defined and pick out the most subtle of sounds with ease. My only complaint with these speakers (even though its small) are that sometimes the lower bass response gets a little muddy if there is complex bass guitar work or layered bass sounds. But they are after all only 6.5". These will match perfectly with a good sub to strengthen the lower frequencies.
