Review 1 of 1

Price Paid:  $200.00

Strengths:
Very strong perfomer. Full bodied mid-bass sound with a warm detailed highend.

Weaknesses:
As with all component speakers, trying to keep the tweeter and midrange mounted close together.

Summary:
In my review of these speakers I want to inform you that I am not biased toward any speaker. I feel that all the company's mentioned above can and do provide us the consumer, with speakers that can meet our highest exspectations of hi-fi car audio sound. Obviously each of these speakers are going to perform better in certian areas when compaired to others. But at the same time they are going to perform worse in other areas that mabe the other speaker excelled in. My review of these Sony speakers is not to say that Sony is the only way to go. No, it is to say that these speakers, the Sony XS-HF78, is a quality speaker that can compete with any of the speakers that are in the same class from the company's mentioned above!

Now on to my review!!!

My debate over choosing component or coaxial is a long one. Ultimately I've decided that component speakers are going to provide me with better fidelity, because you are not breaking through the midrange cone with the wires to feed the tweeter. The midrange cone on a component speaker is one solid piece with no iregularites to cause distortion or other sonic anomalies. After deciding where to mount the tweeter(in the dash), it was time to listen to these strang, almost pearl white colored speakers with a sheer red colored dust cap. Wow, these speakers sounded so...................Harsh! With these speakers, first impressions are not its strong point. I really thought I had made a mistake with these speakers and was in fact, going to return them. The phrase "Patience is a virtue", definitely rings true in my case. Everyday since then, these speakers have improved a hundred fold and the some. These are probably the most natural sounding speakers that I have encountered in this price range. The sound coming from these speakers is powerful. Sound has proper weight which is tight and defining, giving texture and feel to the sound in an almost visual manner. To my surprise, no matter what I listened to, Jazz, techno, rap, dance or even classical music, these speakers gave full justice to the sound of what the performer was intending for me to here.

I am definitely reccomending these speakers. They are worth three times what I paid for them!!!
