Review 1 of 3

Price Paid:  $0.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 1989 Thunderbird

Strengths:
This sub gave great sound wiht normal notes

Weaknesses:
The seal broke twice, on 2 diffrent subs same model, and when the sub hits low notes it sounds horrible. NOT A GOOD BUY

Summary:
This sub was purchased about 2 and half years ago by my brother and put it in his car which became mine, and he did not take out the sub. And after a year of use the sub's seal broke and warranty replaced it. They claimed i could never blow it again with the 800 watt 5 channel MTX amp, well a week ago the sub's seal broke again and im stuck wihtout warranty. Now I have a problem because I have to spend even more money to replace this blown sub

Review 2 of 3

Price Paid:  $145.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 A12s

Strengths:
This sub is very tight, accurate, and musical. Frequency response extends to low 20 hz range. Very clean sounding and therefore plays comfortably at loud levels.

Weaknesses:
Frequency response drops off quickly above 100 hz. To allow this sub to play well into the low 20 hz range, a large box is needed.

Summary:
The A12s is an exceptional speaker. It uses a cast basket, heavy-weight magnet, and a stiff and light-weight cone material. The cast basket is a nice feature for a sub at this price. This sub reproduces bass very musically and accurately. Of all strengths, the tight response of this sub shines. Even the lowest notes are hit without trailing sound or shake.
This sub would be best recommended for a critical listener. Bass is tight and low, but it doesn't have the boom or efficiency needed to win an SPL competition. Power handling is 300 watts. I am sure much more could be put into this speaker, as long as it is clean.
My biggest complaint is box size requirements. A/D/S recommends 1 cube, but this somewhat limits the extension below 30 hz. My box was built to 1.4 cubes and complements the driver and my listening tastes very well. I would not recommend this driver to an SPL Junkie or someone with critical space requirements.
Overall, this is an amazing speaker for $145 shipped! (It was another $150 for a custom box.)
