Price Paid:  $0.00

Strengths:
Dont over power them with 1000watts ,250 should keep them happy

Weaknesses:
none yet.

Summary:
This sub is very good for the money. There are other subs out there that could spank this sub for cheaper, but if you like alpine then go ahead an buy a couple of them. Like i did. These are not competition grade subs so dont think theyll beat that guy with a w7... (which i think is a waste of money)

Similar Products Used:
alpine type r, fostgate hx2, re subs, memphis hpo.

Price Paid:  $140.00 from etronics

Year / Model Reviewed:
 Alpine SWS 12 SVC

Strengths:
Nice SQ and pretty good volume level for the average listener if fully powered. For the price it is an awsome sub...enough said

Weaknesses:
sound like crap underpowered.

Summary:
Okay I thought these subs kinda sucked when I heard them in my friends car because he was running a boss war 1400 watt amp to them...Then we hooked my eclipse 34230 up to them...he...he...he Dang...there was a huge difference in clearity and volume. Why?? his amps reall rated power probably sucks becase it is a boss and boss sucks.... just like power acoustik and most other budget brands. This amp cost me 350 dollars. Why? because it puts out real power....Yea it isnt the best amp designed to bump (its def no crossfire) but it still is raelly nice. These alpines fully powered sound nice for just regular listening. It isnt anything that would mess you up if you were in the car though. My JLw6v2's are designed for that. I have a crossfire 1000D running to those parallel. I hit 149.5 db's last night on the dash. Most subs are blown because they are underpowered and as soon as we dished out a full 500 watts to these (-amp puts out 550 peak per channel @ 4 ohms-)they sounded much better.

Review 3 of 15

Price Paid:  $160.00 from a

Strengths:
value for money [i paid 160 australian dollars], look pretty cool, a good first sub considering the price, but if u get a sub, ur serious about sound, so fork out a bit extra and get something decent [focal, mb quart, boston acoustics].

Weaknesses:
sound crap and distort at what i would call short of loud.

Summary:
if ur serious about ur car system forget i have a general rule that u should forget about japanese speakers and this is definitlely the case with the alpine s12. i ran two of them off a soundstream reference class 5 amp [which is a seriously mad amp] and the subs sucked serious arse. the bass is hollow and muddy [rather than sounding 'bup bup' it sounds 'booowwww ooowwww']and hence sounds terrible on any sort of music that has fairly active base lines - ie r n b, soul, whatever. furthermore, u cant really crank these too loud either cos they distort terribly. i replaced these pieces of junk with a couple of orion amps which are run at 2 ohm rather than 4 ohm like the s12 and the improvement is incredible. just a quick note, im still of the opinion that alpine make some of the best head units going round. im currently using the CDM 7861R and im very satisfied

Similar Products Used:
orion, focal utopia [the best sub i have ever heard], mtx, pioneer, sony [these last two subs are an insult to the industry]

Price Paid:  $0.00

Strengths:
gooood for money and for music

Weaknesses:
not really for competion but can b dun get me wrong

Summary:
Hi....my friend has a Alpine Type S and i gotta say for the money it sounds dang good. Alpine has proven it self for years I SWEAR on ther head units, no doubt i like ther head units the best, but ill b pushing 2 Power Acoustik MOFO 12's with a MA Audio Hard Kore 4400 Watt amp it will slam. Place another note on her if u dun think so but i think it will. But the type Sfor the money is relly a good n solid amp. By tha way i woodnt listen to Ryan because he said Phoenix Gold was the shiz....the Type R or S wil lsend it to town with a whipped butt and he ran it on a 4- channel amp and prolly dogged it and ondered y it busted....but if u think im wrong take a trip down to Beaumont Tx 2 hrs from louisana in a couple weeks and let my MOFO's dominate ya and for those phoenix gold's my bud's Type S will handle them for me..I'm starting to sell sub's jus e-mail me at Steed805@hotmail.com and ill hook u up for REALLY cheap Rockford MA Alpine Pioneer and MANY MANY more almost any kind u want. jus e-mail me.

Price Paid:  $140.00 from friend

Strengths:
Clean sounding, versatile

Weaknesses:
none yet...

Summary:
I am running this sub off a weak amp and it sounds huge. If you are looking for a musical sub than this is what you need. Kicks hard for rap and other heavy stuff too... I have a small car and it fills it well.
