Strength:

Deep low end, high power handling, concealed mounting. Looks amazing

Weakness:

I am experiencing a tick/click around 80hz. At all volumes. Either it’s distorting or it’s blown. Happens at all volumes but only on frequencies above 60hz. Maybe the motor is just that large that when faster bass plays it hits the bottom of the range of motion. Also should state this sound is when I am in front of the sub. Hard to hear it over the amount of bass this thing produces when I’m in the drivers seat.

Strength:

This is the baddest sib I ever bought,I got my 12w7 used for $200 bucks, with a ported competition box that I went all out on,he gave the box raw,and I had it tuned to 32hz. and painted it added tons of sealer and more fiberglass, have an old school MemphisAudio 1000 watt class d Pdr 1 ohm amp,and this thing is a beast, the sub and box weigh nearly 150 lbs. I need a stronger alternator tho,at night anyway,I also have it in a 2010 impala,Pioneer 6x9's in the back and some Jbl'6.5 in the doors, and a sony mex 120 bt with factory amp built in 180watt rms! This mofo sounds magnificent!,would love to see how much DB's it puts out,I play any and every type of music and sounds phenominal,

Weakness:

phenomenal, only weakness I have found in this beast is I want another one for my truck, lol,I have a ported box with a square 15"solobaric in my 05' Dakota Kingcab, which is awesome, just not as good as the 12w7!

Strength:

great SQ subwoofer, looks very clean and flush.

Weakness:

powerhandling-just too over-rated mounting is a B***h, dont bother if you're trying to get high SPL or do competition,

subwoofer was great doing SQ running off my Zapco 1000.1, but its highly over-rated and cost too much just for the name. For the money, i'd rather go for IDMAX12 or Diamond TDX12 for SQ...for SPL try a Digital Design, Fi, RE XXX

Strength:

1 Power handling is insane. Rated 750..ha give it 1500-2000 2. Low bass response is out fo this world and can't nothing even comes close. 3. Sound quality - A sub with SPL and the worlds best sound quality. THIS IS THE SUB FOR YOU!!

Weakness:

- Price, but hey, remember, you get what you pay for. - no other weaknesses

To give you an introduction, My name is Christian and I have been in the db drag scene since 1998. I finally got a chance to review the Jl Audio 12W7 in person with my own ears so here is my official review.... Set up - A single Jl Audio 12W7 in a sealed box wired to a Jl Audio 1000/1. This set up is in the hatch area of a 2001 Chevy camaro. NO alternator upgrade, and one red top optima battery up front and one yellow top in the back. With this set up the review begins... First off, this sub has more output for a single 12 that I have ever heard. A single 12W7 in this vehicle is putting out 145-146 dbs. This is for a SEALED BOX, and the amp was turned to 1/3 of full power, because the owner wanted to protect his alternator. Any idea that this sub does not have SPL potential SHOULD BE CRUSHED. Second, after my first impressions of the output, I tried a variety of rap music and the response was very smooth on all music and the one thing I noticed is how powerful and deep the music sounds. Never in my 6 years of listening to a sound system have I heard this kind of response out of ANY sub, and this is all coming out of this ONE 12 SEALED. This sub can handle an insane amount of power and could easily handle 2000 watts. I have personally seen this sub driven my the most insane buddies of mine at sound offs all around the state. My buddy ran (2) Rockford BD 1500’s to ONE 12, and it still took it and sounded good, not that I would recommend this for extended periods of time, but to show the build quality of this speaker. This sub blows away my Jl Audio 15W3, yes the 12 easily beats it!! This sub is designed to give you a TOTALLY NEW TYPE OF BASS. The bass coming from this woofer is DEEPER AND LOWER than ANYTHING YOU HAVE EVER HEARD. You can only get this type of bass with the W7’s regardless of size. I am not a JL rep or dealer; I am a local competitor on the www.termpro.com website. Look for me (Christian Jensen) and you will see my stats. I am in the works of building my next system so I will keep that under raps for now. I was very skeptical at first as to how one could justify spending 400-600 bucks on a 12. All I can say is GO LISTEN TO IT FOR YOURSELF. I did, and I DO BELIEVE THE HYPE. This is the best subwoofer on the market by far so don’t cheat yourself, spend the money and get the best if you can afford it. If you have any questions at all regarding this or ANY JL SUBS shoot me an e-mail at redbaron80@hotmail.com and I will be free to take some e-mails. Good luck Christian

Strength:

CRYSTAL CLEAN, DEEP, MUSICAL BASS THAT WILL PLAY LOUD. BEST LOOKING SUB ON THE MARKET. MATCHES UP GREAT W/ZAPCO COMP. OF BRAX, AUDISON, ARC AUDIO, ALPINE F#1STATUS AMP. 3 OHM GIVES YOU FLEXIBILITY WITH INSTALL. THE BEST DAMM SUB PERIOD!!!

Weakness:

NONE ALL THE EQUIP. THAT I LIST IS GOOD AND WILL SOUND GREAT, BUT FOR THE ABSOLUTE BEST LOOK AT WHAT I BROUGHT YOU WILL NEVER HAVE TO BUY ANYTHING ELSE UNLESS YOU JUST WANT TO SPEND SOME MORE MONEY.

Let me give you and introduction I have been around the car audio business since the late 70's and I am considered an audiophile and and authority on "SOUNDQUALITY". I've used everthing from harmon kardon, alpine, kenwood, blaunpt, rockford fosgate, and concord back in the early 80's when sound qualiy was getting popular in the usa. Know to get down to business the question that everybody ask me is D.J. "WHAT IS THE BEST SOUND QUALITY EPUIP. FOR A VEHICLE COST NO OBJECT." Well listen up here's what I put in my Beemer I chose the alpine F#1status deck and processor for my source, I used Focal Utopia's 165w's for my kick's, I chose JLaudio 650cxi co-ax for my rear fill {which is opt.}, I ran Zapco comp. amps all bi-amped and last but not least for the subs I ran two JLaudio 12W7 supersubs ran in series to show the Zapco 9.0 4 ohm amp a 6ohm load which increases the damping factor and overall sound quality and alows the amp to run cooler which wasn't a problem any way I just like to do everything to the best of my ability. I upgraded my electrical system stating with my alt. the mach. man in calif. built me one that cranks out 275 amps cold, next I brought two efx 1700 dry cell batt. and alumapro 15 farred cap and ran 0 gauge power wire form efx also triple shielded twisted rca's. I built a custom 1" thick plexiglass 1.5 cu feet per sub. The whole idea is to get the most out of your equip. as possible while preserving the life of your equip. as long as possible because all the items I'm telling you about are not cheep, but what good equip. is cheep? nothing. I just finished breaking in my system which is usually about 15 to 25 hours depending. First of all the F1 status will compete with home equip. like lexicom, krell, mark levinson, the signal is so clean and clear which is where any great system starts just ask my friend Gary Biggs up in Tulsa,Ok he a good sound Qualiy guy also we're always taking it to a higher level. Now, for the good part "is the 12w7 by JLaudio as good as the hype that JL pumped into it, answer you better believe it. Let me tell you in all my years of car audio and I'm 38 yrs. old. I have never in my life heard a subwoofer sound anywhere close to the JL 12w7, now don't get me wrong theres a lot of good really good subs out there like IDmax 12v3, Focal 33wx, eclipse tit. 12 admire 12, and alpine stillwater, jbl. etc. But nothing I mean nothing can touch JLaudio when it comes to SOUND QUALITY JL is the king!!! Now they have to be installed and tuned right are they won't sound like JL meant for them to sound. so you have heard it from "D.J. SUGARFREE" the 12w7 is the best sub. on the planet for sound quality its the smoothest, cleanest, best looking sub. out there. And the best thing is while not really being a spl. sub it will push some db I know several people who are hitting 150's, 160's and crystal clear, so take my advice if you want the best system on the planet go buy JLaudio w7 series woofers they make they from 8's all the way up to 13w7's. Remember the key is to do all the little things to get great sound you can buy a w7 for anywhere from $550 to $749 each so shop around I brought mime in Arlington Tx. at auto sound off cooper st. these guys are the best at SQ just come to the "WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS" in Kansas City Mo. on the 22 of Nov. and you will see and hear what I'm talking about they have the same set up that I have except its a litte more defined for compotetion its a green firebird watch out for it, it got the "Dream System" in it same as mine, I hope I knowledge will help you make a decision and remember install is by for the most important thing next to good equipment, so if you want the best sound syster money car buy this is it hands down. so long "GREAT SOUND AND SPL ALL IN ONE SUBWOOFER" try it you'll like it!!!

Loud and reliable

Weakness:

IDMAX and the RE will both destroy a w 7... I have 2 12 IDMAX v3s.. and 2 12 2 7,s...and the IDMAX destroyed them.. both in ported boxes.. IDMAX beats JL every way possible..go IDMAX= less money and better over all

Good woofer, but the IDMAX 12 v3 is much better... i have both of them, and the IDMAX crushes the w 7 in every way possible...for your money and performace both sq and spl the IDMAX is the way to go.. the w 7 is more of a sq woofer in my opinion

The subwoofer is big, so the box has to big, will not fit in some vehicles, get W3v2 or W7 8inch if u have space issues

Awsome subwoofer, beautiful deep bass, very powerful if u put a JL 1000/1 to it. Best decision on a sub I ever made. I have yet to meet someone who can match my system in spl and sq. I am very pleased with this sub.

LOUD and CLEAN.

Weakness:

It is vey power hungry and NEEDS the 1000/1 to sound the BEST.

This sub is amazing. I had one 12w7 in my 1990 Infiniti M30 with a 1000/1 running power to it. It was insanely loud and I loved it. This sub crushed my friends 2 Kicker 12L7's with a soundstream rubicon running 1000 watts to them. My 12w7 sounded better and was louder. This sub is the cleanest 12" I have ever heard. Thinking of getting 8" woofers because the 1000/1 killed my alternator.
