from audiodealer.com Year / Model Reviewed: 2004 P12D4 Strengths: Power handling, rubber surround, dual voice coil, massive magnet, small box size for a 12" model. Weaknesses: Although I think that I blew the sub, I may have just gotten a bad sub, too bad it's out of warranty now. I don't find any weakness in this sub. Summary: First of all, I used this speaker for about 5 months, then it remained dormant for about 9 months.
I have been sending 420W RMS to each coil and it pounds! The other day, I was driving and all of a sudden, the subwoofer kicked out. I opened it up last night to find out that the 2 of the 4 wires that run from the terminal to the coil had split! I tried to sodder them back together, but the overload protection on my amp kept turning on. I am unsure what happened because I have the correct box size (1 cubic foot) and did not exceed the wattage (500w RMS per coil, I was running 420).
As for Orion itself, I have owned 5 different models (P12D4, XTRPRO15D, XTRPRO10D, & XTR12D, Orion Cobalts) of theirs and this is the first time I've had a problem arise with one. Similar Products Used: 15" Orion XTRPRO, 10" Orion XTRPRO, 12" Rockford Fosgate Punch XLC, 3-10" Cerwin Vega Stealths, 2-12" JL Audio W3s, 2-12" Orion Cobalts, 2-12" Orion XTRs, 1-12" Cerwin-Vega Vega series, need I say more?
