Review 1 of 3

Price Paid:  $160.00 from London

Year / Model Reviewed:
2004 Orion P12D4

Strengths:
They play loud, low and very hard.

Weaknesses:
The terminal wires will never last even 1 months proper usage.

Summary:
I have used the XTR's even in competitions and had no problems. They drop low for street bass hit the SPL's and lasted forever.

So imagine how I felt when I stepped into the car audio shop and heard the Rep anouncing the arrival of the new and 'supposedly' better P12D4. No one had them yet so I could not wait, so I collected them directly from the depot.

Well, after going through 2 pairs (4 speakers) I was only given a third pair on the bases that it would be my last. Problem???? As stated by the last reviewer the kept on splitting. I sold the last pair without even player them as the first pair only lasted 2 weeks. Even after I had a pair repaired they still split.

Similar Products Used:
Bumper 12, Eminence 12, Helix P12, JBL GT3 & GT4 12, Orion XTR 12, Pioneer TS W304C & 305C (will play forever but power hungry), DEI 1204 (great), Directed P12 (GREAT).

Review 3 of 3

Price Paid:  $150.00 from audiodealer.com

Year / Model Reviewed:
2004 P12D4

Strengths:
Power handling, rubber surround, dual voice coil, massive magnet, small box size for a 12" model.

Weaknesses:
Although I think that I blew the sub, I may have just gotten a bad sub, too bad it's out of warranty now. I don't find any weakness in this sub.

Summary:
First of all, I used this speaker for about 5 months, then it remained dormant for about 9 months. I have been sending 420W RMS to each coil and it pounds! The other day, I was driving and all of a sudden, the subwoofer kicked out. I opened it up last night to find out that the 2 of the 4 wires that run from the terminal to the coil had split! I tried to sodder them back together, but the overload protection on my amp kept turning on. I am unsure what happened because I have the correct box size (1 cubic foot) and did not exceed the wattage (500w RMS per coil, I was running 420). As for Orion itself, I have owned 5 different models (P12D4, XTRPRO15D, XTRPRO10D, & XTR12D, Orion Cobalts) of theirs and this is the first time I've had a problem arise with one.
