Strength:

good sound quality, great equalizer and crossover. great sorting through content of mp3 cd's.

Weakness:

just like the other reviewers deck, mine started to turn off intermittently. actually more like, turn on intermittently. time correction seems rediculous. display is crap, i still wouldn't be able to recall most of the icons after looking at it for over 6 years. wish it could completely dim at different levels instead of just turn the main display off.

well it's lasted a bit over 6 years. some would say i got my money's worth but i really want to find out what component inside is dying and have it replaced! what a waste to get rid of a semi-functioning device. i'm calling alpine repair center to see if they can open it up? 3 stars because they could make better for sure. looking into nakamichi...

Strength:

Outstanding sound clarity. Offers full control with tunable features built into the HU. 4-volt pre-outs! Reliable CD player with detachable motorized face and remote control. Aux input works great with iPod or MP3.

Weakness:

Am reception is weak.

After owning for 6 years, unit started turning off intermittently. It maintains all presets and returns to the same radio station when it comes back on. Sometimes it plays for an hour, sometimes for 5 minutes before intermittently operating. I will replace with another Alpine.

Strength:

outstanding sound clarity nice diplays a lot of options for the price

Weakness:

poor AM reception one color display

For the first year my Alpine cda-9811 was trouble free. Then I started to notice that some of the features started not to work. I thought it was a one time thing but a few days later I had no control the deck would not do the anything. I ask a friend had he experienced the same thing with his Alpine cda-9811,he told me that he had and what authorized repair shop to take the deck. I had the radio repaired at the cost of $82.00. Four months later I began to experience the same problem again, I have yet to get the deck repaired again. This problem usually happen once or twice a week, after about 10 to 15 minutes I have control of the rqadio. This happen more often during the winter months. I will probably buy another Alpine deck.I was wondering if anyone else has experience this problem.

Strength:

First and Foremost-- the preout voltage is good (4 volts?) The Time Correction, when set right, makes a world of difference as far as imaging is concerned. VERY reliable unit (maintenance-free), NEVER skipped once. You can feel and see the quality of //Alpine's craftsmanship all around the HU.

Weakness:

Very picky on most MP3-burned CD's- I always get the DISCREAD- ERROR message, so I have to make sure that the surface of the CD is SPOTLESS. At one occasion, the 9811 also lost some of its settings (like the bass/treble volume) but other settings were retained. VERY LOW remote turn on current (0.3A?) If you have two amps and at least an EQ - forget it, you'll need a relay (the HU will not supply enough current to your amps' REM and they will not turn on) AM reception is very poor.

Installation of the CDA-9811 is a snap-- providing you have the right tools. The manual is easy to understand, but trying to get around the buttons and functions will take time and patience to learn and master. Audio output is VERY CLEAN. Onboard Xover and Time Correction seems to work pretty well. The display is okay, but it looks a little monotonous. Kinda.

Weakness:

Pay no attention to the review by "car_freeky". Any moron that pays $500 for a head unit that retails for $330 must have mental problems. So far I am very pleased with the Alpine CDA-9811. For the price you can't beat it with 3 sets of 4V preouts, MP3 compatibility, subwoofer control, motorized face w/ adjustable viewing angle, remote control, and XM satellite radio compatibility.

Strength:

tilting face 3 color display (especially the green to orange LED change) crisp sound memory tilt remote control different bass functions (MediaXpander) scrolling song and artist names MP3 capability!

Weakness:

boring display brightness of buttons lack of bass? some controls are totally useless not very user friendly Pricey

Deck sounds much better than sony or stock players. With the price you are paying, you would expect a greater attention to quality - and sure enough this deck satisfies that. I personally think Alpine should have added more colors to the display, it looks boring. Additionally, for some reason I can't get the same magnitude of bass from my subs that i could get with my previous deck, although I get much more treble. So it is a tradeoff. Overall, deck seems like a respectable unit

Strength:

Very solid feel. Crisp, Clear Sound.

Weakness:

Could use more graphix in the display, but that is mostly personal preference and does not affect the sound reproduction qualities

Just installed it and it sounds Great! Still thumbing through the controls but so far it seems very user friendly. Nice crisp clean sound, even through the factory speakers.
