Paxton Superchargers Superchargers

Paxton Superchargers Superchargers

DESCRIPTION

The Paxton Supercharger uses a gearless centrifugal compressor which is belt driven off of the crankshaft and runs cool. This means: intercooling is not required or recommended; no heat shields are required; you use your stock engine oil with the same oil change intervals because the Paxton utilizes a unique self-contained lubrication system; you can keep your exhaust system stock with no modifications required; no inconvenient idle down periods are required; engine servicing remains the same as stock thanks to its compact design; and because the Paxton is belt-driven off of the crankshaft youíll get almost instantaneous boost. Kits available for most American cars.

Strength:

easy to install never encounter any Never had any problem with it. Proper installation and a good selection and tuning of the carb is necessary to avoid problems

Weakness:

the engine itself. I blew away two stock 351W (over revving and valve float...)before to use a crate aluminium windsor. The bad reputation of this blower is an hoax created by poor machanics

I just bought a new SN 2000 and oil cooler at Paradise wheel to test it. Will let you know...

sez 8-10 hours for competent tech, took me 29 hrs,and i have worked on cars for 32 years,i think im more than competent

if you all value your money,DO NOT buy a paxton belt driven supercharger.the hp and torque claims by the manufacture is b/s.i had a jet computor module that plugged in to my ecu that felt like it made more power.i cant understand that after spending that kind of money on the supercharger that it wont performe like a 300 dollar plug in module.very dissapointed

The one best power add on that you can do.The kit that is on my car is the same one that was used on the 66-67 Shelbys so it looks right for the year, and the car. That 289 hp helps with the fun also.

Weakness:

Paxton...They just let me down.

After having the Paxton for about five months I had a oil blow-by problum that feed oil into the carb from the output side of the Paxton.I sent it to Paxton and upon getting it back the problum had not been fixed and Paxton told me that they did not work on the SN 2000 any more and had sold that part of the supercharger line to Paradise Wheels in san Marcos, CA. I talked to Craig Conley and he told me to ship it to him. He found the trouble and fixed it. Craig took the time to do the job right as Paxton did not. The car is a 68 Mustang RVcam. Hooker headers. 650 Holly, 66 Shelby intake. On the Dyno its 289 hp at the back ,and thats with stock heads. The one thing that I think is a must is the use of the oil pump and the cooler for the supercharger, as it lowers the temp of the oil in the charger its self.I have done two Hot Rod Power Tours with no troubles. IF you have a Paxton call Craig.

Strength:

Seems to be ok, good throttle response, more torque.

Weakness:

I was "MISLEAD" by numerous articles that seemed to promote the Paxton balldrive piece prior to purchasing. I HOPE PAXTON HAS HIRED AT LEAST ONE SOBER MECHANICAL ENGINEER THAT POSSESSES THE ABILITY TO DO HIS JOB ON A DAILY BASIS!!!!!!!!!"

Purchased the kit back in spring of 2000. Sn-2000 kit for 85-87 TPI Camaros. After "RE-ENGINEERING!!!!" alot of small details to complete the install(including correcting a drive pulley installed backwards), supercharger did well for about 6 months...then...loud whining...locked up...melted the drive belts. I contacted Paxton and realized i had bought a product that had been "DISCONTINUED!!!!!". I was referred to "PARADISE WHEELS" in california for the rebuild at an expense of 700.00. Paradise wheels informed me to "avoid subjecting the unit to any engine Rpm greater than 5500" as to not hurt the supercharger.(Why couldnt Paxton inform me of this??????) I installed a rev-limiter set at 5500rpm. No problems with the unit goin on more than two years.("BUT", at 6 psi, i have blown a head gasket twice!! Drivers side each time)

Model Reviewed: 1997 SN93

Strength:

When properly installed with attention to detail and alignment, the SN93 is a very reliable and long lived system. The system performs on demand plus some.

Weakness:

The SN93 system has been used by a few friends of mine on different applications with mixed results. Poor installation by would be mechanics and improper alignment of the crank pulley and supercharger pulley cause the majority of problems. It is difficult to get Paxton to give any information with respect to adjusting the fuel curve with the fueler system. Tinkering with it can result in a blown or damaged engine. This system is not for the inexperienced.

I installed an SN93 Paxton Supercharger on my 1996 5.9L Dodge Ram 1500 in 1997 and have had zero problems since with 25,000 miles on it. When the system was bought, Paxton had not had many Dodge Ram systems installed and found the installation a learning experience for both of us. The original cowl and injector plate that was designed for my truck would not fit under the firewall and finally had to resort to a Mustang cowl with the injectors in the cowl. The instructions were somewhat mis- leading but with careful thought, I managed to get the system installed. I found that careful attention must be paid to detail when installing the system. Alignment is the answer to long life. In the beginning, boost appeared too high at 11 lb. but soon settled down to 5-6 as advertised. The original aux. fuel pump sent with the system was noisy and had to be replaced. Installation time was not 2 days but 13 days. Paxton techs recommended that the stock ignition and exhaust system remain in place but the fueler system and supercharger seemed inhibited. All show and no go. I bought an MSD6 BTM ignition, Edelbrock Shorty headers, and a Hughes modified throttle body. The Paxton sprang to life. Many more engine and transmission modifications have been made since but the Paxton SN93 is still the core of the powerplant.

Strength:

Not noisy, gives my car lots of power, virtually no maintenance other than the usual changing of oil.

Weakness:

None. People have problems with any product they buy. Some more than others, some less, some none at all. That's the price you pay when you upgrade your car's power system. I heard plenty of bad stories on Vortechs too. Just a preference on what you like. However, I would like to raise my boost to 9 psi, hope it can take the increased boost.

Well, I keep hearing bad reviews on Paxton, but I only had mine rebuilt once in the 7 years that I had it.
