Model Reviewed: Golf GL

Strength:

-Improved gas mileage -Noticeable increase in torque throughout the entire RPM band

Weakness:

-Increased risk of detonation -Must use 91 octane gasoline

I recently purchased a P Chip for my 2.0L 8v Volkswagen. The Neuspeed P Chip produced a noticeable increase in torque throughout the entire RPM band. Not only the noticeable difference in power, but it also bumped my gas mileage from 39 to 44 miles per gallon. I recommend this chip for anyone driving a 2.0L 8v VW. This truly is the best bang for the buck. For less than $100, even if you are not a performance enthusiast, the P Chip is still a good buy for the increasd gas mileage.

Model Reviewed: 2002 Volkswagen GTI 1.8t

Strength:

Increased torque throughout the power band, rev limiter removed, smoother acceleration, Turbo receiving higher boost levels.

Weakness:

Increased wheel slippage? Decreased turbo life span?

I drove to the Neuspeed Headquarters in Camarillo and their tech installed the chip in under 30 mins. The saleperson told me to drive the car hard on the trip back to Oakland, so that the new instructions could be learned by the ECU. Well on the trip back I didn't notice much of a difference in performance, until the next day when I was driving in the streets and realized that all my gears were wide open on the tach. The rev limiter was gone! I now have to make an effort not to go too fast in residential areas. Also due to the fact that the 1.8t is FWD w/out limited slip, it became necessary to upgrade from the stock tires (understeer under hard acceleration was brutal). This helped alot! Car is now running w/ Kumho Ecsta 235/45/17. I also did some more research and decided that a diverter valve (Bailey's motorsport $159) would be good for turbo due to higher boost levels from p-chip. This helped alot by diverting air pressure back into the intake for use instead of the pressure backing into turbo, when you take your foot off the gas. Reduced turbo lag.

Strength:

More responsive throttle, feels less sluggish off the line. Noticable all throughout the power-band. Bang for the buck is fantastic.

Weakness:

Contrary to what others have said, I personally did see a tapering off in gas mileage. I have the VW "MFI" (Multi-Function Indicator) which has showed a drop off in MPG. Worth it, though :-)

Definitely a must have for VW owners, particularly VR6''s. Not as dramatic w/the Automatic Trans (like mine) but fantastic nonetheless. Gets more HP for $100 than many Japanese cars get w/$150+ intakes. I''d say the chip is to VW''s what intakes are to Hondas (I like them both). Highly recommend it!
