Strength:

They have kept together....

Weakness:

They cupped before 20,000km (12,427mi).

They all make a loud noise like the tires are loose. The dealership said they don't cover tires. Firestone says the Caliber causes them to cup and Chrysler says they are the tires. I still have them at 53,000km and they make a noise louder then ever. Either way it shows how good Chrysler products are and how they stand behind the products they put on their cars. DON'T BUY A CAR WITH FIRESTONE PRODUCTS ON IT!

Weakness:

The original Firestone Firehawk GTA tires wore out after 14,000 miles. I purchased 4 new Firestone Firehawk GTA tires and now after 15,000 miles the tires have worn out.

Firestone need to make better tires. If a tire is warranted for 40,000 miles and wears out after only 15,000 miles brand new tires should be issued to the consumer free of charge. Firestone needs to stand behing their products.

Firestone!

These tires became excessively noisy at 20k. At 40k you couldn't hear the person next to you or the radio. Cupping! Performance tires?

None, Car companies should not put performance tires on economy cars

Weakness:

Noisy at 27000 miles unacceptable.

I am so glad I have come across this review, I have taken my car back to the dealership twice for noisy tires at 27000 miles never believing it could be excessive tire wear. The dealer told me the tires had been cupped. No more Firestone tires.

Strength:

NONE - Do not purchase this model of tires under any circumstances. If you're considering a used vehicle that has this model of tire, ask the dealer to replace the tires with better ones even if you have to pay extra for it.

Weakness:

Flimsy appearance (quite thin-looking, especially compared to the new Dunlops installed today)
Tendency to wear out too early
Requirement for very frequent rotation (according to other reviewers)

This review concerns the factory-installed tires on the Ford Focus SE. I bought these tires (Firestone Firehawk) as part of the package on a low-mileage 2001 Ford Focus SE at the end of March, just over a month ago. From the moment I drove off the lot, I experienced a near-continuous "rattling" noise from the front. When I took the car to an independent source for a checkup, I was told that it might be the wheel bearings, which really worried me because those can be expensive to fix. However, when I took the car back to Koons today and they gave it another thorough once-over, they discovered that all four tires had become "cupped" with just over 27,000 miles on the vehicle (25,466 when I bought the car, and I had driven it for about 1600 miles since then). They replaced all four tires with new Dunlops - at no cost, thankfully, since tires are covered by the limited warranty on their used vehicles - and recommended that I rotate the tires at 6,000-mile intervals. It was when I got home and did some research that I discovered all the other complaints about this poorly-constructed tire model and its tendency to wear out early - AND the fact that Ford no longer uses Firestone tires on its vehicles due to the numerous and very serious quality issues. Had I known this earlier, I would have asked Koons to put new tires on the car right off the bat and saved unneccessary time and worry. This car is otherwise in excellent condition and has given me fine service, and I hope to get good service from it for years to come especially with the new Dunlops. It's a shame that a good vehicle like this one was saddled with such lame tires out of the factory.

Weakness:

excessive shaking, excessive thumping, excessive road noise.

I bought a 2002 Ford focus in 2005 with about 60000 km on them... the tires were finished and the dealer said they would put 4 brand new tires on it. The tires were brand new alright but about 4000km later the front end started shacking, it felt like the tires were out of balance.
I had them balanced and it still shook like the front end was coming apart... in fact there is so much shacking that I believe that all the creaks that have showed up in the car are were caused by excessive vibration/loosening of fasteners... it was even worse after I did the tire rotation.
I've owned other performance tires that lasted allot longer without the excessive shacking and roid noise.
Firestone... never again.

DANGEROUS

Firestone Firehawk P205/50R/16 These tires are dangerous and should be removed from any automobile you drive. The rear tires started making a high pitched whine sound three days after I took delivery of the new Ford Focus. The salesman stated this was normal for this type of tire and should not be of concern. The tires now have 21000 miles on them and are chopped. They are so loud I cannot listen to the radio. The dealership refuses to make an adjustment for these defective tires and insist the cause of the problem was alignment and is my fault. Firestone blames Ford for a rear suspension problem. I have purchased 12 new vechiles from this dealership over the past 15 years. This is my last Ford product and I will never buy another Firestone tire.

Strength:

The Firehawks were a good tire for me. Up until the inherent Ford manufacture or design flaw destroyed them.

Weakness:

I would like to hear from anyone owning a Ford Focus having this cupping problem, no matter the tire brand.

I made a recent review of the Firestone Firehawk GTA tires on my car recently and, having read many reviews here have noticed a trend in automobiles with the same problem. Many seem to be Ford Focus'. having the problems that I am experiencing with cupping, and noise, vibration, I also want to say that up until I rotated the tires I could drive down the highway at 130 kms/hr without a vibration or whirring sound what-so-ever. Looking at my tires carefully myself, I see that continue to wear on the inside edge only on the rear. I can see the choppy cupping. So on the next rotation in 5000 km. I will feel and hear the horrible noise associated with this problem. As i have stated in my earlier review, I have 7/32 left on the tires. They are not highly worn, and yet I have this problem. No one wants to take responsibility for the cupping or the reason why. I get passed from the Ford dealer, who has checked the alignment and everything is in within spec. All tires are balanced. All properly inflated. What is interesting is the Ford Focus, and how, once you rotate the tires you get the noise, vibration and cupping. It is only my reasoning that there has to be a problem inherent in the manufacture of the vehicle. There is a problem Ford will not addrress with the rear suspension of the vehicle. I am prepared to put brand new tires on the car, my expense, keeping my old ones, and monitoring the wear on the new tires to prove my point. I have spoken with other Focus drivers who have had 3 sets replaced on the same vehicle. When does it become obvious to you that it isn't the tires. Yes, there were problems with Firestone truck tires at one time, and they did invlove Ford trucks.SUV's. Why only Ford? I would like to believe it is Firestone, however everything on my car is within spec and yet the tires are wearing and cupping in the rear. I can only assume, many Ford Focus owners have simply blamed Firestone because of recent history with other Ford vehicles and not taken the time to look at their tires themselves. Personally, after the treatment I just recieved from the dealership, and the pass the buck routine from Ford, I will never trust them again, or any of Ford's interests such as Mazda, Range Rover, Jaguar, Astin Martin, Lincoln. Quality is not job 1. I know. This is my second Focus.

Weakness:

cupping, loud,

Firehawk GTA's my car is just over a year old, and IU take very good care of it, down to the tires. I hit 40,000 kms and started getting a whirring sound on corners and took it in to be told they were cupping. I rotated every 10,000 km with the service and this time they checked the alignment, which was dead on. Tires were all in balance. I check the tire pressure with a digital tire gauge, at least twice a week as I do a fair amount of driving. I have had to endure alignment checking, rotating, cross rotating, being told to drive a few thousand km's to wqear them down, etc. the vibration on the highway is so extreme and the tires are so loud it is extremely frustrating. Now they want me to put new tires on my car, and they are at 7/32! Like I said, I take care of it. The service manager mentioned to me Ford wanted to put new tires on it but he told Ford I didn't need them as it wasn't a saftey issue. He tried to tell me the cupping was a result of low pressure in the tires, at which I keep at 34 pounds as stated on the car. i have checked my tire pressure directly after leaving their maintenance and found them to be 28 pounds, which I duely remedied. After reading some of the reviews in this forum, I am shocked he did not replace the tires as Ford was willing to do, even as a gesture in good faith. I have experienced everything except the tires blow outs, and I do a lot of highway driving. This problem I have even brought to the attention of Ford personally and to the dealer and neither have responded. This is my second Focus from this dealer and I have always spent a lot of money on upkeep and servicing. Not only is Ford about to loose a customer, but so is the dealer. To risk someone's life and family over a set of tires; seems to be a bad decision all around. All these reviews can't be wrong. This is a problem I am sure the dealers know about and yet, do what they can to milk you for more money until you buy a set of tires.

[insert sarcastic comment here]

Weakness:

Poor performance, and the quality of a dime store balloon.

I won't even get in to a car with firestone tires on it after I went almost 20k on these. At about 7500 miles the front tires blew out (sidewalls) within a week of each other. I thought the first was a fluke and had it repaired under warrenty. When the second went (the other front tire) I wrote it off as a bad run of tires, and asked the dealer to replace the rear tires as well. They refused, but said they would forward the request to the ford regional rep. About 7500 miles later, one of the replacement tires blew out a sidewall at the same seam as the first pair had. The other replacement tire made it almost 12000 miles, a new record for this vehicle, before blowing the sidewall in the same place. I can't speak to the treadwear on these tires, because the only way my car is going another mile on them is if I end up taking it somewhere to trade in instead of replacing the tires. The handling is comparable to any pair go generic all-weather radials (note I say generic, not good) but not up to the standard of a performance tire except under perfect road conditions.
