2009 Mazda RX-8 2009 Mazda RX-8 Review: Go Speed Racer, Go!
Rating: 4.25 stars
by Peter N.

"With 265 horses, the RX-8 delivers the ‘get-up-and-go’, especially when joined to the 6-speed manual transmission. Working through the gears made me feel like Speed Racer working around the track - plenty fast and lots of fun."

"The Wankel engine has basically one moving part that just spins. And it has a higher power to weight ratio than any traditional engine. Mazda’s RENESIS engine in the RX-8 is remarkably smooth and high revving — all the way to 9,000 rpm — and offers a smaller engine footprint than traditional internal combustion engines."

"Even the smallest, lightest car that Volvo makes is still a solid, safe and reassuring machine in the most dangerous of driving conditions."

Rating: 4.25 stars

"Running strictly with a “straight-from-the-factory” setup and premium grade fuel, the RX-8 showed its made of the right stuff by keeping up and chasing down other cars that had stickier rubber and more aftermarket modifications. With a 50/50 front/rear weight balance, a set of sticky and highly predictable Bridgestone Potenzas, the RX-8 was downright fun blazing through the turns around Mazda Raceway."
