from open box circuit cit Year / Model Reviewed: 1999 mrv-f357 Strengths: good sound quality, good power for first four channels, good deal if you wated till the model was out of production. Good ergonomics. Weaknesses: 5th channel is kind of weak, and lacks a bass boost. Runs a little hot. Summary: This is a great amp. if you know what you want out of it.... Sound Quality.... that does not mean to be heard a block down.... but to hear your own music. If you want to be heard outside the car get a two channel or somethin more powerfull that can handle a lotta sub. I've had the amp for a while now, the turning off thing that people complain about i'm glad to have cause i have seen more than 1 amp pushed more than it is supposed 2 be and just burn up. What i really like bout the amp is the power to the the first four channels. If you're running it as a 5 channel don't expect too much in terms of subs... a 10" that doesn't require too many watts would be plenty. I actually recomend running a crossover w/ a bass boost for the subwoofer input. Eases some of the overheating probs. I do agree with other reviews that it tends to run a little warm most of the time, and even with just a 10, it can overheat and turn off on you. Considering that it's a 5 channel and the amps it uses i'm not too surprised. I actually tried running it as a three channel seemed 2 not run as hot. Let me explain why i give it only 4 stars tho.... i just expect more out of an alpine, i'd like to have seen it put out a little more watts on 5th channel, and run a little cooler, and i only four starts on value because it would cost the same to get a four channel and a 1 or 2 channel amp, although wiring would cost more and you'd loose on the form factor of a 5 channel amp. Similar Products Used: Haven't used any other 5 channels, altho used plenty of other alpine amps, the v12's usually have very goood sound quality, i've seen a mtx 5 channel that seemed to handle subs a lot better, but sound quality on high/full pass wasn't as good, also lacked the features the alpine has.
