Strengths:
American Family Insurance is very strong when it comes to pretending to be a fair insurance company.

Weaknesses:
Honesty and fairness.

Summary:
American Family Insurance control of auto body shops is devastating. Even though the average labor rates in the Madison, Wi. area are well over $56.00/ hr. American Family Insurance refuses to pay over $ 53.00/ hr. They say shops do not request a change, that is ridicules. They are the only Insurance companies in the area besides Geico that will not pay more than $ 53.00/ hr. Beware, if you want cheap Insurance, you will get sub par compensation when it comes to filing a claim. The only thing is that American Family is not cheap ! If you want to know which Insurance company plays fair, ask a body shop - body shops see if every day.

Strengths:
Ripping off customers.

Weaknesses:
They do not like to pay claims. They are insulting and arrogant. Adjusters don't seem to know what they are doing. They bend the truth to fit the situation.

Summary:
I totaled my car a few months ago and when they aduster came up with a value, he took the lowest one he could find anywhere, which was NADA, and told me that was all he could give me,which was not only $4,000 less that of Kelly Blue Book, but also a min. of $4,000 less than I can find a car exactly like this one anywhere around here. Not to mention that it took over two months just to hear from him with an unbelievable dollar amount. I have a few months left on my existion policy and I will never give American Rip Off My Family another thin dime!

they said they dont have insurqnce for a house being remodelled -then why sell the insurance

Summary:
I bought a business insrance policy from American Family insurance on ahouse I was having remodeled, while someone was living in the house. They sent a field rep and after he went out they told me the inital policy I was buying was the wrong one and to buy a business policy which I did. Unfortunately the house burned down several months later -the painter was staining some logs and the fumes caught fire from the heater - American Family denied the claim, said the policy they suggested was written wrong

Summary:
CONSUMERS BEWARE!!! American Family is taking advantage of their consumers. Come October 2009 they will be having yet ANOTHER rate increase for both their home owners and auto insurance even though they just had a rate hike in December 2008. This is a very greedy organization!!! I refuse to give them another red cent when I can go to a competitor and save more than $30 alone on my auto policy!
