Price Paid:  $35.00 from Used

Year / Model Reviewed:
2007 ws-9210

Strengths:
Small price and exceptional performance when properly enclosed. Great design, leading to tight accurate sound reproduction and exceptionally low VC temps which should provide for long life and low distortion. Nice looking from front or back. Taking a chance on these will pay-off.

Weaknesses:
Not SPL monsters as they would appear. Best used for audiophile/sound quality applications. Tacky fonts used but can easily be removed/covered up. Only available in 4/4 VC configuration. TS information not published and hard to get ahold of.

Summary:
Exceptional bang for the buck!

Been installing/fabricating custom installs for near 20 years. A friend offered me this sub in box for 35.00, I figured what the heck. I had hooked it up in the box it was purchased in and it souned horrible though the speaker seems well constructed minus some cheesy font used for the lettering around the rim of the face. So, I contacted American Pro to get my hands on a data sheet and the theil-small parameters. It did take some time but I was finally provided this information. With that information, I was able to better design a box for the thing, the specification led me in a direction completely different from the box I had gotten the sub in originally...hmmm. After having constructed an appropriate box using appropriate materials, I wired it for 2 ohm and hooked it up to my trusty modified Linear Power amp at my test bench which produces 350w rms at 2 ohms.

WOW!!!! Give this thing a chance, you will be pleasently suprised. It doesn't fit into the niche it's appearence suggests but it sounds damn good. It looks like a major excursion SPL monster with it's huge surround and monstrous motor, but it isn't, it's TS information and shallow motor structure give hint to this before even applying power. It does however manage to outdo any speaker I have tested costing as much as 3 or more times it's paultry 72.00 retail price tag. The bass it produces is loud, deep and ridiculously tight and accurate and I thoroughly enjoy listening to it. I upped the power by connecting it to my modified Xtant mono block and it further amazed. Whether intentional or not, the ventilation to the voicecoils kept the temps very low, even when provided a very real 800w, a figure I had thought the manufacturer had exagerated. I ran it through a torture test for a full 28 hours and recorded the VC temps and to my suprise they never got any where near damaging levels.

Value is definately is a 5. Overall is a 5 too because of the insane bang for the buck and exceptional performance. There are better subs, but not anywhere near this cheap. If you were planning on spending upwards of 2-300.00, get these instead and invest the savings eleswhere.
