from Avis, Salt Lake City Year / Model Reviewed: 2009 Impala Strengths: Don't charge for addtl. drivers Weaknesses: They don't care about your safety. Check the car yourself. Summary: 100 miles away from Slat Lake City, where we rented the car we had a blow-out. We called the supposed 24/7 roadside assistance line on Avis' agreement folder. They did not have anyone that could come out to assist us. They suggested that we could drive on the donut for 3000 miles. On 80 mph speed limit roads that was not an option. The next suggestion was that they provide info on the nearest place we could get a new tire. The place they sent us to was 50 miles away and when we got to the address found that it hadn't been Big O Tires for 2 or 3 years. We were lucky. There were 2 other dealers in town and 1 had tires that would work. I say "tires" because when the mechanic put the car on the lift both tires had the steel belts showing. This car hadn't been gone over in quite some time. Because Avis would not give the shop a credit card to bill it to I had to pay for the $662 job myself. I was told by a manager named Drew that the amount would be subtracted from my car rental and the difference would be sent to me by check. During the remainder of our trip the check engine light kept coming on. We called the service manager in Sat Lake to find out that Avis only checks their cars every 7000 miles. That's scary. This man, Tony, told us that he'd take care of us. I guess that means nothing because upon returning the car the only thing we got was a bill for the rental and a promise that I'd be reimbursed for the tires and that Tony would probably comp the car for our inconvenience. Never heard from Tony. I called Avis costumer relations and was told that a check was cut for the tires and that they could offer me $85 in vouchers for future rentals. What a joke! As if I'd trust my life to an Avis car again. I think not. I asked for a manager and spoke with Dennis in Salt Lake who promised a 1/2 refund on the car. It has been 48 hours and still no refund on my card. Called Travelocity who claims to make things right, right away. Ha! Same BS. I wait... no check...no refund. DON'T DO IT! DON'T RENT FROM AVIS!
