Price Paid:  $120.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 2000 ODc66 - 6-3/4" oversize Component

Summary:
The Blau's are very musical sounding. The tweeters did a nice job with some of the more subtle nuances of whatever music I listened to, this helped to provide a nice soundstage with the crossovers you can modify the output a little by setting to -3db if you find the dash location a little loud. So far I am leaving the setting at 0db.

The speakers do need a little breakin time. The 6000k setting on the crossovers lets the Mid Woofer do a little more work, this tends to smooth out vocals and balance the overall sound.

You could definitely spend more on a set of component speakers but if you have a realistic budget and you want a set of good sounding speakers then give the Blau's a close look, their a real bargin.

Strengths:
For a Component set of oversize speakers these Blau's are priced right and they fit well. They were installed into the front doors(Mid-Woofs) and dash locations(tweeters) in a 94 VW Golf 4dr. Im using a 25watt x 4 head unit to power them. The tweeters have at least four different mounting options so you can strike a balanced sound without having to settle for a less than optimum location. The Mid Woofers fit nicely into the stock factory cutouts with no hassle. The speakers themselves look really sharp with their silver-black appearance. You get a real rubber surround on the woofer for much improved cone movement and control not tomention more bass.

The crossovers have two ranges of adjustment one for output 0 - 3db, and crossover point 3000k 0r 6000k. I found that the stock setting worked fine for my door - dash install.

All of this with a very well put together owners manual with good company support (check out Blaupunkt.com). When your looking for these from Crutchfield search their Internet location Crutchfield.com and select "Car Products" then in the look up select "Blaupunkt" and then "go".

The overall quality of build is nice even though they are constructed in China.

Weaknesses:
No negatives that I can find at this time.

Similar Products Used:
Kenwood KFC 1786 6-3/4". The Kenwoods were decent they fit well and provided good sound output. The Kenwoods did fall short in the deeper bass area, and the mid range sounded a little horn like (squonkey) on vocals.

Summary:
This component set is pretty good. The highs are impressive but the midbass could use more punch. The set is being powered by an MTX amp and gets about 55 watts RMS per channel. It has an elegant look to it!
