Price Paid:
$70.00
from Rio Grande Lock & So Year / Model Reviewed: 2004 CF1244 Strengths: LOOKS: They look beautiful and will get attention.
SOUND: Very powerful, deep bass with a lot of warmth. They move a lot of air.
CONSTRUCTION: Try to dissect them visually to find any "cheapness" in them; you won't find none. Rubber surround is thick and strong. The carbon fiber cone is very stiff but still, the sub sounds gorgeous. They're really quality subs that are underpriced for some weird reason. Weaknesses: HONESTLY, I couldn't find any, people. But just to put something, they distort a BIT at REALLY high volume; every speaker will do that and distort in their own style. But it's hard to notice on these. I noticed because I have a trained ear. But for the regular joe, they won't notice it. Summary: I was in search for 2 cheap subs to replace my 2 JL Audio 10W0 in my '94 Celica, since I gave them to my sister. I went to the local audio store and saw those beautiful subs laying in there with a $70 price tag. I thought it was a joke; these subs are a work of art. Anyway, the guy, whom I've known for a few years, said that they're trying to get rid of them for new merchandise. I freakin' grabbed 2 of them and a 1.0 sealed enclosure. I always knew that Coustic wasn't the "bestest" out there but their quality was outstanding...I already had experience with their old-school equipment. All I can say is WOW for these subs; what a difference. They slam and HARD. I've had "real man" subs and these, for being cheap, are hanging in there with the big boys. They're really superior to JL Audio W0 series but what is not, hehe? I was running them off a Kicker XS50 high current amp, and they really thump. And yes, any sub will thump, but these subs have a BIG thump and WIDE sound if you know what I mean. Obviously, they're going to distort just a bit if you get the volume too high, but it doesn't sound like cheap distortion. I highly recomend them for a budget system. But the only budget thing in them is the price. These subs are the cheapest component in my Celica's system but I don't feel guilty about it. 10 out of 10 for them. Similar Products Used: JL Audio 12W0: Coustic have them beat, but what doesn't?
Kicker CompVR 12": I really couldn't tell...they sound similar, but the Coustic has a more rugged construction. I will have to see when I go back home to P.R. and test them side to side.
