Price Paid:
$18000.00
from Dealership Year / Model Reviewed: 2002 Toyota Camry Strengths: Cost beats competition by about 10% Weaknesses: Customer service gone downhill, can't stand their foolish commercials, can't get any info on claims Summary: I've been insured with Geico for about 30 years. Back then they were very good, low cost, good customer service, very modest price increases (even lower my rate once, maybe twice over the years). But today they have changed. While their prices are still somewhat lower than most, they aren't that much better anymore (in the old days they might be 50% lower, today maybe 10% less). But customer service quality has dropped, and they now do blanket rate increases every year (not based on prior year claims but on increasing profit and shareholder value). Think about it, your car value decreases significantly each year but the cost of your insurance goes up each year! Why should I pay more to insure something whose value is much lower than last year?
As far as claims, Geico doesn't give you any information on what was paid on claims. I had an incident in which my car bumped another at a traffic light (at 2 mph) and made a tiny scratch on the other cars bumper. I'd really like to know what if anything was paid to the other driver, but Geico won't give this info out. Yeah, I got "accident" forgiveness (which many companies offer today), so it didn't affect my rate, but I'd really like to know what came of it. I think they like to keep you in the dark about stuff like this, though it seems I should have a right to this information given that it's my car insurance policy. I don't know about other companies but I would like a company that doesn't keep secrets from me. Similar Products Used: AMEX car insurance ... they baited me with a lowball rate for 1 year then jacked prices the following year, at least Geico doesn't do this!
