Review 1 of 22

Price Paid:  $300.00 from Circuit City

Year / Model Reviewed:
2002 Kenwood/KDC-716S

Summary:
I purchased this model in '02. In December of '03 I contacted Kenwood as I was experiencing difficulty. The face flipped over, however, no display was showing and I had no control of any button on the display. I talked them into paying for the labor, but I invested $80.00 for the dealer to uninstall the unit. When I received it back, everything was working properly. Now, in '06 I stated experiencing the same thing. I was about ready to contact Kenwood again, but decided to look at some reviews first. And to my surprise, the same thing that is happening to my unit the rest of the world has been experiencing as well. I am stuck on one radio station and have no control of my buttons, including the rest. I will not be fixing this unit again. I will be going to purchase something different this afternoon.

Strengths:
Very unique display and larger remote for better control.

Weaknesses:
The shelf life of this unit is some 5 years with most customers dumping money into it during those same 5 years.

Review 2 of 22

Price Paid:  $400.00 from Crutchfield

Year / Model Reviewed:
2001 kdc 716s

Summary:
I must say that I am surprised by the reviews of this system. I know a system will not last forever, mine lasted 5 years just going out on me a month ago. It started by playing on the last channel I had it on and no lights or displays coming on. I had no control of it. When I pressed the reset button it killed everything and so I called the lifetime tech support with Crutchfield and they said from my description of the problem that the chip was toast and that 5 years is pretty good for a life of a head unit. I live in Alaska with temperatures during the winter reaching 40-60 below zero at times and never had a problem with anything. I truly fill that I got my moneys worth for 5 year life of this radio.

Strengths:
I liked everything about except for one item. (listed in weaknesses)

Weaknesses:
Though it be a hard one but if I hit a bump the CD would skip. If my bass was to high it would also cause it to skip.

Review 5 of 22

Price Paid:  $300.00 from Circuit City

Year / Model Reviewed:
2001 Kenwood KDC-716S

Summary:
Originally I bought the model below this one, but after having problems with this one on the first day it was installed, I brought it back. I was told they disconinued that model due to all the problems they had. So I upgraded to this model. I have had it for three years total. For the first two it worked great. I was very, very happy with this radio. Then The display went. About two months later the sound went. Then another two months the display will not turn when the car shuts off. SOUND FAMILIAR? I too have gotten no where with Kenwood. I have tried the radio in another car and it still does not work (thinking it was my car), the fuse is fine. I have but the factory radio back in my car now for the time being--and that one works great. I am extreemly disappointed. I went for quality, and obviously I got ripped off.

Strengths:
Worked great for two years.

Weaknesses:
A borken radio, with no support from Kenwood.
