Price Paid:  $0.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
2008 Kia Sorrento

Summary:
When I first drove the KIA Sorrento I loved it. No problems, easy to handle. Within 5 weeks the car had episodes of completely losing power 4-5 times. One episode occured while I was on a narrow bridge, another while I was trying to get through a red light. You are driving along and the vehicle starts slowing down. No power. Push on the gas pedal no response. After the car sits for a 5-10 minutes it will regain power after being started, but this last time the vehicle only went a few feet before losing power again. This was just one time. This car while very lovely to look at, is extremely dangerous. Been in the shop several times with no resolution. The Mechanic has driven the car in an effort to help us but the problem can't be replicated. The Kia computer diagnostic system says nothing is wrong with the car. I'll remember that when I'm stuck on the road the next time. I wouldn't recommend this vehicle to anyone. Any vehicle with this problem is a danger to the owner and the populaton at large. Perhaps the 2008 Kia Sorrento Model needs to be recalled?

Strengths:
Nice design.

Weaknesses:
Loses power suddenly, making for an extremely dangerous driving situation, putting life and limb at risk. Back seat noise noted like loose bolts.

Similar Products Used:
Have a Mitsubishi Montero and wouldn't trade it for the world. Extremely reliable.

Review 3 of 32

Price Paid:  $22000.00 from Lokey Kia Tampa,Fl

Year / Model Reviewed:
2007 Sorrento EX

Summary:
Have owned 5 KIA's all but this one have been excellent with little or no repairs. Still have 3 in the family. The Sorrento has been in the shop at least 6 times. At first there was a problem with it losing all power except for 1000 rpm and you had to pull over and turn off car to restore power. Took it in three times in first two months and it seemed like it was finally fixed. Next the rear end started to make a screeming noise, I had my oil change place check the fluid it was OK. Took car into dealership where they tried to accuse me of putting something in the differential. Factory rep authorized a complete new rearend, this was late July early August. Now the original problem with the car stalling is back. So far both KIA and the dealership are working with me but we will see how that goes.

Strengths:
I like this car it is the fastest thing I have owned since my 1966 GTO.

Weaknesses:
Sales manager told me today that this problem is not unique to me he has other Sorrentos with same electrical problem

Year / Model Reviewed:
2007 Kia Sorrento

Summary:
I only test drove the Sorrento LX last night. WOW!

Strengths:
Touch the gas and look out - this goes really fast!! Also, the pickup on it is better than my Infiniti QX4 - no kidding!

Weaknesses:
Interior still felt a little like a low priced car, but it's nice. I test drove the deluxe model with heated seats, CD player, etc.

Price Paid:  $26000.00 from Kia of Des Moines

Year / Model Reviewed:
2006 Sorrento

Summary:
This suv is the biggest piece of crap ever. It had only 2k on it when we started having problems. The lights in the shifter went out. Then it sprung a leak of engine coolant. Next it started to shift funny, we had it into the dealership several times before they ever resolved that issue. They put us in a filthy, smokey, sorrento as a rental. It was so bad, I wouldnt put my kid in it. Then it starts stalling just out of nowhere. We took it to the dealership several times, and of course when they get the car, they cant (duplicate the problem). In other words your stuck with it, cause we cant figure it out. I hope it doesnt stall on my wife when she is on the interstate. They had to replace the seats because they were wearing out ,it didnt have but 9,000 miles on it. It also screams like a pig when you start it and drive it. Could not duplicate that problem either. I have that on video several times. It is pretty bad when you have had a car less than a year, and have had so many problems, and need to take the time to video them. We have been to the dealership at least 10 times for problems. I know im forgetting other issues but it is my wifes car and she has all the paperwork. The kia customer service is terrible. It is like talking to a robot. Dont ever buy a kia

Strengths:
none

Weaknesses:
cheap, poor customer service
