I picked up my new sport yesterday. It replaced a 2006 sport I liked very much. My blackberry won't integrate with the car even though i had that functionality with my 2006 model. Further, the iPod hook-up is useless as rover doesn't provide a cable with purchase, you can't get a cable online or at an apple store. The cable can be ordered for $100 from rover but they are backordered & can provide no delivery date. Do not buy this car!

My husband bought me the white 2009 supercharged range rover for our anniversary.. gorgeous vehicle however that looks faded fast when i experienced my first of many service problems .engine light turned on and continued to do so even after service, brakes squeeked constantly and there was always a software upgrade that had to be done. My truck was serviced once every month( we later added it all up) for almost two years.Service was horrible , they would keep the truck for two or three days. We had to replace the brakes after 18k miles.. what a joke $540.00 later I can't tell you what a headache it wasand what a relief it was to get rid of it . I now have a Denali and love it!!!!!

Bought Brand New in November 2004. The car has been in the shop for its entire life. Generally the same issues over and over with limited to no long term fix. We love the car, but the service and suppport from Land Rover is minimal at best. If you are having issues with your radiator, it leads to serious damage in the near future. the transmission goes by 50K miles without warning. The radiator will leak and over heat without registering on the dash as an issue. Thus, the car will over heat internally and cause the transmission to fail. We have serviced our 04 at the dealership at every point and thereafter the warranty had expired. The transmission failed when my wife was returning home 9 months pregnant on the San Mateo bridge 9:30 at night. Absolutely no warning, car has been meticulously maintained at the same dealership BMC. She was stranded and now Land Rover NA is stating they have zero comment. We have complained several times about transmission issues as well as the radiator has been replaced twice. Now we see the issues are derived from the over heating and LRNA is not taking any responsibility since the warranty has expired. So much for customer loyalty.

Strength:

Best duality of beauty and masculinity on the market; Seat comfort that trumps our 745i; Amazingly torquey engine that pins you to the ridiculously comfortable seats; superior ergonomics that blend artistry with function; driving position that makes you feel as if you're on an Urban Safari; huge, powerful vents are a welcome feature on warm summer days.

Weakness:

No individual CD player; no automatic lift-gate at this price, the steering wheel heater functions towards lukewarm at best, the A/C is way too aggressive and difficult to coax into a perfect temperature; the sport mode is merely a suggestion

We traded in our 2001 Range Rover for a slightly upgraded model as we found that certified pre-owned is THEE way to go: you can view the vehicle's service history to see if it's a lemon beforehand, & in our case, we got roughly $35k off the original sticker price. Sure, you need to eventually add on a supplemental warranty, but that's a small price to pay for a truck with some documented proof of reliability. Upon entering the truck, I was immediately impressed by the comfort of the seats. They are HUGE seats, both front & back. They don 't necessarily cradle you so much as they make you feel more like you're lounging on your favorite sofa or chaise. The height of the driving position was captivating because you feel so in control of not only the vehicle, but all those around you as well - a master of all you survey, if you will. The integration of the center console with the dash and the rest of the vehicle is pure artistry. The pushbuttons surrounding the center touchscreen no longer have the confusing hieroglyphs of its forefathers but instead use icons that the rest of the world can universally relate to: telephone, musical notes, etc. And once you utilize one of the pushbuttons, the options on the center touchscreen become immediately accessible. You can use the touchscreen to dial phone numbers, dial in radio stations, punch in destinations for the navigation system, & so on. This car's electronics are so incredibly easy to operate yet it still retains an air of sophistication that Lexus and Acura will never be able to duplicate with same level of refinement. Then there's the case of the engine and transmission. I do believe that my '01 Range Rover had a BMW engine and tranny, but I'm not quite sure - however, this vehicle makes the old truck look like a fat grandma trying to sprint the 100 meter with a peg leg. This new vehicle is torquey to put it mildly. It lurches forward with a mission to mash you into your seatback. It is hot off the line! As the rpms start to slide up the tachometer though, this portly machine starts to lose it's competitive edge because it's geared for boulder climbing and mud pit wallowing. The high-end horsepower can't keep it in the running with the likes of our X5 & it just starts to make lost of noise and rev really high & the speed and power output becomes a bit anemic. Well, just to be fair, it does a very good job of keeping this very heavy monster running with some degree of presence. If fact, I frequently find myself cruising at 90mph with 5-Series & Boxters & Mustangs neck and neck. What is truly awe-inspiring is the torque. It is nothing short of gut-wrenching and it never ceases to put a huge smile on my face. The fuel consumption is deplorable, but I didn't expect this truck to win points with the Sierra Club; However, I typically turn in a decent number of about 15-18mpg with combo city/highway. Chances are though, if you can afford to buy a vehicle like this, then the gas it takes to get from point A to point B is a negligible concern to you anyway. And then there's the cargo hold. The back seat can comfortably seat all of my 6-foot friends shoulder to shoulder without a single gripe - which is a huge deal because my friends LOVE to complain! The back seats fold up against the front ones to accommodate ENORMOUS amounts of groceries or anything your trips to Home Depot might entail. I must gripe about a few things though: First off, no automatic lift gate? I mean. come on! All this money (initially spent) and all the key fob does is unlock the friggin door?! Not cool when you have your hands full of groceries or when your holding two cans of paint in each hand & you simply cannot reach over to push the unlock button above where the licence plate is located and thus scratching up your beautiful paint job (no, this didn't happen to me personally or anything >:I ) Also, the steering wheel heater never really heats up properly. It can get to lukewarm status after about 3 to 4 minutes, but that's about it. My 7 series went from frigid to blistering in like 2.2 seconds... Just the way I like it! And the A/C control is possessed by some malicious ice demon that wants to make peep-pops out of the passengers. You can set the temperature for 68 and the powerful blowers with howl until you are frozen and wind-chapped. Try changing the temp to 75 and the same thing happens. Fortunately, my partner and I like things a bit on the Antarctic side. I think this could be a serious issue for many thinner soccer-mom types who may procure themselves one of these vehicles. With that said, this is a beautiful, powerful truck with every amenity you can think of. It is pleasing to gaze upon both inside and out, & I guarantee that you will have a perpetual smile on your face from the moment you get into it, until the moment your journey is over. You may, in fact, just come up with errands to run simply to have an excuse to let this bewitching giant shuttle you from one place to another

Gas but that is with any SUV.

I owned my DISCO for the past 3 years. The lease is up and I have decided to move on to the RR Sport. The dealer tried to talk me into the LR3 but after a test drive of the RR Sport I knew it was the one. I truly believe that it will be well worth the $62K. I had no major problems with my DISCO. I cracked a couple of headlights from rocks and the gas tank latch broke but other than that I LOVED they way it performed. I used it to tow a trailer with motorcycles on it and it even performed well in the mountains of West Virginia. I can't wait to get my new RR Sport out on the road. I have never done any off road riding so I don't have any complaints. If they were still making the DISCO I might but another. I enjoyed the dual sunroofs more than anything. I saw this truck over 11 years ago and decided then that I would buy one. At the time I purchased the DISCO the RR was out of my price range. Now that I can afford it I have made my mind up. There is no other truck out there that can compare. I have driven them all. The RR gives you a very classic look. Of course gas is high but if you are going to drive a SUV you are going to pay in GAS! I love my ROVER!

Best 4-Wheel drive, loads of extras that come standard, sex-appeal, comfort, stereo, lots of Range Rover clubs for group outdoor adventures.

Weakness:

Power, low fuel economy: 14.5/12.5 mpg, high costs for parts and labor

Wasn't looking for a Range Rover, but am happy so far. At this point I consider the Range Rover to be one of the best values when purchased 4-5 years used and with less than 50,000 miles. I've owned my Range Rover for about 6 weeks now. (Read below if you're interested in how I settled on the Range Rover) I feel I got a very good deal on my vehicle: $18K + tax, licence, etc. $20K out the door w/ only 44,600 miles on the odometer. It was a Flordia and California car and everthing, including milage, checked out on CARFAX and its in "Outstanding" condition. As somewhat of a gambler I chose not to take an extened warranty that would have covered me an additional 55K miles (3 years at my usually yearly mileage) because they are really tricky contracts with all kind of exceptions, high deductables, and cost between $4000 & $8000 dollars. (My advice is to take a potential vehicle purchase to a Land Rover specialist (Dealer or independant shop) and have a "pre-purchase" inspection done for between ($100-200). Be prepared to make an appointment several days out. In the six-weeks I've already put almost a grand$$ into the car. Most of which is non-essential stuff that I knew about before purchase. I spent $220 on an extra key (dealer only gave me one), $160 on front and back-seat carpet floor mats, $50 for two plastic "Land Rover" caps on wheel center, $200 to fix a gasket on the trottle body that blew in Vegas and was shooting out anti-freeze and $80 for a 6-CD Magazine changer. The brakes also needed a little work. Despite the initial $$ spent getting the truck perfected, I still really love this vehicle. It handles really well, has lots of creature comforts, looks great and feels even better to drive... it's like you're going to work in a leather couch on four wheels. As an outside sales guy, it has lots of advantages in that it breathes success, is great for taking clients out to lunch, makes you want to drive to that next sales call and when it's time to go home you just crank up the stereo and sink into the sweet smelling leather. A couple things I learned since owning: As the manual advises, unless your on an open highway, drive it in third (gears 1, 2 & 3) = Improved power and fuel economy. Also there is an incredible reference sight "rangerovers.net" that has tons of useful info. I am hoping to come back and post another review after I've had the truck for a year. As long as I spend less than the cheapest maintenance insurance over the next three years I'll be happy then I'll be ready to sell and get me another used low-milage RR for cheap.

I spent a month (cash in hand) looking for a vehicle. Originally had looked at the Toyota LandCruiser, because I wanted a true 4x4 with some luxury options. I used ebay and edmunds.com to determine the true value of the TLC and found that to stay under my goal of $20K I might be able to afford a '98 if I found a great deal. I eventally test-drove a '97 TLC and although it was in very good condition at 90K miles something about it didn't feel right. It just wasn't clicking. At a car wash a week later I saw a dark blue '97 Range Rover 4.0 SE with a "For Sale" sign in the window. I thought that I would never be able to afford one and was shocked to learn the owner was asking $13,000 (It did have 100K miles though). He let me drive it for the day and even took it to my general mechanic. Suprisingly it had everything I was looking for in a LandCruiser: 4x4, lots of room, leather, Cruise Control, power everything, automatic, A/C, power moonroof. My mechanic cautioned against it's high miles, engine leak and a few minor problems. I'm glad I passed because I found what I think was a great deal (time will tell). Despite the problems with that particular vehicle, something about the Range Rover felt very right. Eventually found and test drove the '99 4.0 SE which I ended up purchasing.

Strength:

Looks, stereo(when it works), off road capability(when it runs), looks good in driveway(as long as there is a oil pan under it to catch all the leaks). Dealerships very accomodating, since you will see them more than your family.

Weakness:

Reliability, Reliability and oh yeah reliability.

Step away from your checkbook, don't waste your money. I bought my RR new after owning a Disco for 3 years. My thought process was, okay the Disco gave me some problems, leaking oil, problematic sun roofs, window that liked to jump the tracks, to name a few. But if I upgrade to a new RR, just think how much better it will be for almost $30k more!! Nice theory, the RR is pure and simply put...junk. I don't think 3 months have gone by since I've owned it that it hasn't been in the shop, and out of 4 different RR dealers, besides having a nice eye appealing showroom, they are difficult to deal with and eventhough you spent $60k on a vehicle they still look down their noses at you. I never understood this since they get of work and jump in their Camry's to go home!? I digress, let me list just a few of the issues; air suspension has gone wrong 6 yes 6 different times. Of course it is the switch, air line, chip, etc, always an excuse with no fix in sight; more fluid leaks than a 80 year old roof; back end rattles; electrical problems; sqeeking doors and liftgate; power steering problems; and did I mention fluid leaks? All you RR owners know when I say I would drive staring at the digital display just waiting to hear that beeping sound that means, "thanks for spending all your money on our piece of junk that is about to breakdown again". My wife has a Aviator that puts the RR to shame, except when she hits the onboard computer button it beeps to go the the next menu and it sounds like the RR breakdown beep and I start sweating and twitching when I hear it. Then I realize I'm in a much nicer finished, reliable and better driving vehicle and can put my heart back in my chest. There is a reason for all the jokes about RR's, don't be fooled like I was and think it is just a few unlucky ones, I've talked to every RR owner I come across and the story is the same, STAY AWAY, AND SAVE YOUR SANITY! There is a reason there are all the jokes about the leaks, creaks, buy 2 so you always have one to drive while the other is in the shop, etc., and that is because it is true and us owners have to make jokes so we don't close our heads in the garage door out of frustration. Wow that was cathartic, thanks for reading. Good Luck.
