from Rich Mortons Year / Model Reviewed: 2001 lincoln continental Summary: Overall, a great used car value. I purchased for $16000. Not bad for a vehicle not two years ago was $41000. So this would indicate at the new price the car is fully loaded. IT IS! I do believe if more people had test driven the Continental, more would have been sold. This automobile was targeting the younger crowd with budding family needing space but would not want to give up some driving excitment with just the family truckster. First, the engine is very powerful(wolf in sheeps clothing). You will just about put everyone to shame who think they can beat the hotrod Lincoln. Sure, every car can do 100mph...this Conti can do it between stop lights. Not to mention the nice duel exhaust sound when you stomp on the gas(quiet when just cruising). Interior appointments are excellent as well as the Alpine tape/CD player. It is loud enough and clear enough to make the youngsters with $5000 worth of stereo equipment turn their heads. The active air ride suspension is also a plus, very noticable difference in ride quality/performance in plush, normal, hard mode. I do enjoy floating down the hwy in this Conti. The steering wheel controls for sound system and climate control are a excellent idea and work very well, not to mention cruise control buttons also located on the steering wheel. The virtual instrument/guages are a nice touch, as well as, the console/bucket seat set up. You truly feel you are getting into a fighter plane cockpit. The leather seating area is very comfortable and the heated front seats are excellent. Climate control can be automatic or controlled as you wish. Two driver seat/mirror memory is excellent and a nice touch. Trunk space is far and above expectations. Rear seating area is spacious and very comfortable. My five year old is usually asleep within five minutes of driving. The exterior is very nice and there is enough chrome(for those who still long for it on their automobiles)but not overstated. The car has a very aggressive stance and the power to back it up. Fit and finish is excellent. The deep maroon paint looks to have been layered quite a bit so as to give a deep wet look. Folks, this is not your fathers Lincoln. I recommend the vehicle to those that are just a little tired of the 4 door foreign offerings/domestic offerings. Strengths: $16000 for a car worth $41000 two years ago(so what, depreciation is bad, I do not buy cars soley on resale value you should not either, they all depreciate, and they are only worth what someone is willing to pay)
Very strong 275hp engine
fit and finish
smooth transmission
sound system excellent
interior appointments excellent
airbags galore(very safe/sturdy vehicle)
not Grandpa's Lincoln Weaknesses: I hear parts and service expensive(what newer car today is not expensive to maintain?)You have to pay to play.
They are replacing Conti with the LS(BMW looking monstrosity)
I can only afford one Continental at a time Similar Products Used: 1980 Lincoln Mark 6(still got it and still running stong)
