Year / Model Reviewed: 2002 Bravada
Summary: I feel lucky that I leased my 2002 Bravada after receiving TSB 003019 (engine cylinder failure). GM's offer of 7 years 100,000 miles warranty for repair is not enough for a car this expensive. I have searched the Internet for info on this notice but only found Carreview and an Alldata site that had limited info.
Does anyone know how many defects have been reported for 003019? Whatever number it is, may be low as most 2002 still have under 30,000 miles. Also, when a GM dealer resells a 2002 Bravada with this defect are they required to divulge that engine is known to be defective? Buyers beware - my Bravada will soon be at a car dealership waiting to be bought by an unsuspecting soul.
This is my second 2002 Bravada. The first one died on the way home from car dealership. After 2 attempts to correct problem GM traded me for another. This one has died on my wife twice but restarts after about 15 minutes. Olds has no idea what causes this. Taillights (circuit boards) have been replaced 2 times. Mirrors have a mind of there own and will not hold resets.

Year / Model Reviewed: 2002 Oldsmobile bravada
Summary: I bought the vehicle used with 47K on it. I owned it for 8 months before it started going downhill. First, changed transfer case fluid ($280), replace several lights, fuel pump(which left me stranded on I-80, $115), replaced something with the suspension $250), have had problems putting it in gear from park, clicking in my dash, which we don't know what it is, now..I am replacing the transfer case fluid for the second time after 8 months. It seems to me like this bravada is a money pit.
Strengths: Looks nice, rides great, has everything you want in a vehicle as far a features. Love the heated seats.
Weaknesses: Doesn't shift all that great, don't trust the AWD.

from Bill Heard Chevrolet
Summary: Well, it looked and drove great when I drove it off the lot but it's gone downhill quickly. It died in traffic because of a defective computer chip. Then the mirrors would not hold their setting, another defective chip. I took it in to the dealership 5 times to have the same windshield leak repaired (I should have pursued the Lemon Law), a dealership problem. And now the transmission shifts so roughly that it drives like it has 300,000 miles on it. The dealership says that it's a problem with the Bravada but don't worry about it because other Bravada owners have complained and they couldn't get GM to buy their cars back. This is not to mention the 2 recall notices that I had to take the vehicle in for but the real winner was a notice that the engine cylinders may be defective but that GM was extending my warranty on the engine to 100,000 miles. This does me no good because I bought an extended warranty when I purchased the vehicle but what this effectively does is reduce the resell value to $0.00 because who would want to buy a vehicle with the risk of catastrophic engine failure. GM and Bill Heard need to be sued and I will pursue this. If there are other Bravado owners out there, let's do a class action suit. Down with GM, they build a lousy product.
Strengths: There are none.
Weaknesses: Poor manufacturing and GM does not stand behind their product. Bill Heard hires public relation people instead of service people.

from Pietroske, Manitowoc
Summary: We've had this vehicle for 14 months, now have only 8800 miles on it. For the price paid, we've had the same problem 3 times with this vehicle (see Weaknesses below) which neither the dealer nor Oldsmobile know how to repair.
In the 14 months we’ve owned the vehicle, we have been without it 62 days.
Strengths: Beautiful ride; looks great, easy to drive (when it works).
Weaknesses: After we had it 8 months, began having problems. On a cold start, engine would race (intermittent problem), then could not get any acceleration (would only go 5-10mph) until we went half a mile or more. We've had it to the dealer three times for this problem--first time (at 3791 miles) dealer replaced gear box which did not fix the problem; second time April 2002 (at 7660 miles) dealer replaced the transmission. May 2002 (7800 miles) I refused to bring it to dealer and told him to pick it up, which he did. Dealer placed a "box" on vehicle and had one of their techs drive it, problem occurred but "box" recorded nothing. When picking the vehicle up 11 days later, dealer told us nothing was done since he said Oldsmobile told him this was "normal" No repairs were made this third time. Before picking up vehicle we called Oldsmobile and were told they are aware of the problem and are working on a "fix" which could take "two weeks, two months, or two whatever" to find a fix. When we picked up vehicle, dealer again said this is "normal". When reporting the third incident of the same problem, dealer's service manager said we should floor the accelerator when we couldn't get any speed (vehic
