Review 1 of 2

Price Paid:  $60.00 from ebay

Year / Model Reviewed:
 FNX 1414

Strengths:
Good build quality, come with everything you need, good sound overall

Weaknesses:
Highs can be harsh, xovers can be a pain to mount since they are pretty big

Summary:
I have the component set with the crossovers, not just the mid. These are part of the first system I have ever built and am ripped out my entire Bose system (95 Audi S6) to put it in. So far the sound isn't quite where the Bose was for overall sound quality, but certain sounds (highs especially) are much cleaner and textured. I am hoping that these Rockfords, whcih I have in the front doors, are still being broken in and will get better as they play, but right now they are pretty decent. Being only 4" the bass just isn't there, but they sort out the rest of it pretty well. I am only using the head unit amp right now so I think if I get an external amp and bring RMS power right up to the max rating the mids will be a bit more punchy and the highs will smooth out. I have the xovers set with the highs at -3dB, and still think on some tracks they are a bit harsh, but thats just me. Since they can still be had as overstock from last year I would say anything in this line will be a great value for a mid to high end component set.

Bose - a word of advice: don't take out a Bose system hoping to get better sound unless you are willing to spend $ for good separate amps and speakers

Review 2 of 2

Price Paid:  $100.00 from Ebay

Year / Model Reviewed:
 87 Sentra E Hatchback

Strengths:
Price, sound, build quality, and power handling.

Weaknesses:
Crossover is large, tweeters sit up kinda tall when using the surface or wedge mount, low sensitivity.

Summary:
This Component set is Nice, I have last years the fnx1414, the ones with crossovers that look like fosgate amps, Silk dome tweeters have always sounded the best. Titanium and aluminum are too harsh and mylar isn''t nearly clear enough. And suprisingly there is enough midbass/midrange for a 4" I have not heard a better set in this price range. They say 70 watts RMS but the sensitivity is kinda low, The just barely hit the volume level I want being run of of my Head unit amplifier, which is 22W says pioneer which is probably about 20 realistically, but they deserve an amp anyway to cut out the 110Hz range and below.
