Price Paid:  $0.00

Year / Model Reviewed:
 FPC-2204

Strengths:
Drop in installation, shallow depth, seem to have quite a good x-max for full range driving off a powerful amp. Pretty darn good sound when run in.

Weaknesses:
Not as good as the HPC series 4's I prfered but I can't get those where I live anymore.

Summary:
I got these to put in my Wife's Mitsubishi Chariot MPV. The rules were to use factory locations, have a very minimal cost, and sound good. I compared them to Cerwin Vega, Kicker, Alpine, and JBL speakers at about the same price. The CV and Alpine spks had a good strong bass with a laid back top. The top was nice like this but was "mushy". The JBL was right in my face and didn't have the deep stage sound that the others seemed to have. The RF's are strong in the bass, clean and precise yet not agressive in the treble. I run a second hand Pioneer KEH-P9750 and changer as the source, Alpine MRV-F407 amp, JL 10W0 sub and these speakers. All up, less than NZ$1000 (US$500). They sounded much better than the stockies (duh!) and over the course of a few days, seemed to run in very well and sound even better than anticipated. These sit in a small cavity on the top of the dash firing straight up and when used with the Pioneer's seat position DSP function, give a nice high, wide and fairly deep sound stage. They handle bass pretty well and can be driven quite hard. They responed very well to having a nice amp driving them. I run them full range from the amp i.e. I am not filtering off any bass from them. I run the JL 10 from about 80hz down. I can tell that the bass is comming from behind if I listen carefully but if I low pass the sub any lower, I get a whole in the band where the little RF's start to role off. I must say though that they are doing a very good job and I certainly would recommend them.

Similar Products Used:
No other products in the same instalation and car have been used but previous speakers were Boston Pro 6.5's in my Subaru. I demo'd other products in store as mentioned above.
