Year / Model Reviewed:
 Sony 2002

Summary:
I was on a look out for a budget 5 channel amp which is why I came across the Sony. First the weakness which I consider pretty irritating. The fornt and rear channel have an undefeatable crossover (variablke from 50-300hz). Basically that foreces me to add a sub to the system instead of driving a decent set of 6x9's in the rear. There is no feature to set the cross-over off. Second thing I didnt like was that there were no high level inputs, not something to crib too much though. Now the positive side. The amp is pretty powerful, it is able t shake up my earthquake components in the front and over power my 6x9's in the rear. The sub channel is great with a variable cross-over from 50-300hz low pass. The amp lacks depth in mid-range (it could be my limitinbg speakers too!). Highs are plenty as well is the bass. I would have appreciated a little more mid depth but then it is a budget amplifier. It is a bright amplifier I must warn you. Pair it up with a bright cd player (pioneer like mine) and it will sound sharp. Thats what my music sounds like, sharp. Im trying to use the amp with another cd-receiver like a Blaupunkt 9known for it flat sound) or an alpine (for the sonic depth mid-range). The amp gets hot during use so dont mount it under the seat. All in all a good amp if your looking for power capablitly, but I think I have heard warmer sounding amps before. Buy it if you need power not for sound quality if your a discerning audio enthusist.

Strengths:
Powerful amp, 5 channel layout, heavy bass and treble.

Weaknesses:
Lack of depth in the mid-range (could be my speakers to). Undefeatable crossovers for all channels. No high-level input. Gets very hot.
