Strength:

Astetix baby! Plastic base cone (not cardboard junk). Price is right.

Weakness:

Not competition level. Want some better subs for the money? Check E series Alpines.

I'm pretty impressed if you can blow these subs in ten minutes with the correct configuration... you must be a real rocket scientist. Anyway great subs for the cash. You can always upgrade later, but for the price cousious sub sounder, nothing is more econo.

Strength:

it was cheap...and warranty was helpful

Weakness:

not so loud...poor sq...unreliable

Sony simply does not put alot of effort into there car audio products. I have yet to have a sony product in a car that lasts more than a year. To tell you truth no sony product in a car that i have owned has proformed the way i ever imagined it to. I just recently bought a sony 1000 watt amp and i just sent it back for repair under warranty.(that is a plus) I constantly had problems with it shutting off and it finally gave out and will not turn on. A buddy of mine has 2 aluminum cone sony subs and they are constantly blowing. The sound from the amp was not all that great...the subs that my buddy had were not all that great sounding either. I bought this amp because it WAS cheap($150). Sony car audio is definitly nothing to brag about and NOT EVEN NEAR COMPETITION quality... Mabye i just got a bad apple or something but every sony explode product I have ever owned has done just that. and to the guy a few back, systems never sound good with the top down......some people...

Strength:

uhhh, cool colours

Weakness:

-over rated power handling. -cant go deep -i can hardly hear it -its sony car audio!

this is a review for a sony 15. They are the worst things i have ever heard. i heard a 15 hooked up to a mtx 2160. it was garbage. the guy was going on about how good it was to EVERYONE. so i took a listen and had to stop from laughing in his face. i own a jl 15w0 and it pounds 20 times harder, deeper, louder then this piece of garbage. if he got 4 15s my 1 15 would still smoke it. the 15 sounded like a 10w0 with 100 watts running to it. dont even get me started about how bad it sucks at going deep.

Strength:

Not much. I guess its good for a beginner system on a budget. Nice look.

Weakness:

Lacks good sound quality. Lacks spl. Doesn't take claimed power handeling.

If you've never heard a good sub setup then you'd probably think the sony xplod subs are good. That was my mistake. I thought my 12" xplod sub was bangin' until I heard a friends two 10" Cerwin vega vega series subs. After hearing his setup, I stepped back into my car and said, "Dam, where'd the bass?!?!" I quickly sold the xplod sub and bought a CV Vega series 12" sub and the difference was like night and day! The Vega was louder, went deeper, and sounded better. Now Im running a single Orion hcca 10d(10") sub and it would eat 4 12" xplod subs and be beggin for more.

Even the lower level Fosgate, JL Audio, Kicker, etc. are better.

Strength:

They look pretty cool

Weakness:

They are not Deep, and SQ is very poor. Very low power handling. Sony has really gone down hill

I used to be a fan of sony products, both home and car for a while, and even had a sony head unit in my truck for a while. A friend of mine had these subs, and we hooked them up for a while. They were kinda loud, but not really much else. We bought them becuase they looked cool, and had rubber surrounds (Which we thought would be good) but then started studying online, and other subs, and saw there are MUCH better subs for the price out there. Sony seems to have given up on making anything that performs, and are instead going for looks. Their whole new Xplod line up is based on that simple concept. Look Good! If you want to look nice, shiny and red, and dont mind if your system sounds like crap, then I guess Sony is the only real red sub out there. However, if you want something that is a great deal Deeper, with better quality, and higher power, then go with a JL w0, or Cheaper Orion, or even get a Cheap Kicker. They make those Comps for less than $100 a pop, and I have seen them for buy one get one free for $119. Dont be fooled, they may look pretty, but that is it.
