Summary: They call this a Volvo??? My new fully loaded 2004 S60R bought overseas mid 2003 with point of acceptance delivery in the US was a stylish road rocket if it ever got out of the dealer’s service bay. It is not built for Boston or New England roads or weather. The 300hp 5 cylinder did exactly as promised and with little problems as long as it was drinking premium gas and going in a straight line but the mpg was always like a regularly aspirated V8. Too many intuitive programmed items installed with no manual over rides and this for a car that is billed as a sports car. The DVD navigation system worked like a charm BUT, being locked into AT&T for the integrated phone was such a bloody hassle that I terminated it after one half hour of service and trying to recode it proved maddening. Dead on arrival was the front right light that took over a month to get replaced. Both cute little light wipers that turned themselves on when they felt like it apparently were installed incorrectly which resulted in deep gouging of both light shrouds (another replaced part needing to be ordered) and subsequently having them disconnected permanently after they did it again. The alignment of the trunk lid was incredibly sloppy with excessive gaps and tolerance errors yup, it leaked when opened also. It is a crumble zone nightmare as a less than 1 mph nudge into a low parking stop caused numerous damages to internal plastic and metal. The 17in tire rims very problematic with potholes and quality of their laminate, enough said. Turning diameter is understated as being excessive with grinding of wheels inside well very annoying. Right side mirror could not maintain tension at speed and flubbed about or folded in. Poor quality metal-like interior trim dented easily. Fog lights continually flooded and misted (no dealer resolution). I ordered no daytime running lights so naturally it came with them and no way to disconnect without unknown damage to some other system. No nighttime privacy as lights always on. Volvo gave overseas mediator name, number, and e-mail POC info for me to deal with… this proved a no-go and futile gesture. Sold it, not stored it, at less than 15K miles and went gleefully back to Iraq safe in knowing that I never will buy another Volvo again.
Strengths: Comfortable, powerful, contemporary, stylish and fun to drive when not in the shop.
If you need new friends buy one and Volvo will provide you with plenty of mechanics to talk to. The service folks were professional, proactive, understanding, prompt, etc.
Weaknesses: Overall lack of Quality Control.
Blind spots.
Summary: Nice Looking car with many problems right from the begining.
It's a beutiful car, inside and out, fast very fast athough clutch is not very good, wearing too fast. Gera box also not very smooth, sticks.
Amplifier problems. Fuel senser didn't work from the start. bad noise when turning not sure what it is, I will be taking the car for service soon, I think it's power steering or something with the suspension.
Strengths: Power
Sex apeal
brakes
interier
Weaknesses: Elerctrical problems
Clutch
Tires not performance and neither all season

Year / Model Reviewed: 2003 2.4 T
Summary: Im 18 years of age and my father asked me what kind of car I wanted. At the time there were 4 hot cars available. This was January of 2003. Those few cars were Infiniti G-35, Nissan Z, Lexus GS300, and the Volvo S60. Out of all the test drives and overall results I chose either the infiniti G-35 or the Volvo S60. I loved the looks of G-35 more but the heavy yet sharp feel of the Volvo won me over. Overall this is a great car with a great experience. It can look good in some colors as I have it in Titanium Grey. It can look decent in others. I have the 2.4 T Volvo S60 2003.
Strengths: The heavy feel of the car, the fog lights, electrical power chaired with heaters, moonroof, strong safety features. The car has a great sports feeling with alot of room. It's a little suv feeling too.
Weaknesses: Obviously there are very limited amounts of S60's out there on the streets. The reason for this is at its sticker price the G-35 and Nissan Z are more preferred. But I guarantee the Volvo is much better overall with its fuel saving engine and its overall safety. The 1 thing that even irritates me is the fact your blind spots cannot be seen due to the wide doors. You have to look in your rear view. You cannot see your blinds.
Similar Products Used: Driven the G-35 and Nissan Z both are very fast cars but VERY LOUD ENGINES. I love driving the quiet yet smooth s60.

Year / Model Reviewed: 2003 S60 AWD
Summary: I leased a 98 S70 GLT for four years and my wife didn't want me to keep it so I got a Jetta GLX. But I always wanted the Volvo. Recently wife got a V70 2.4T and it reminded me so much of my S70. I soon became very disenchanted with the Jetta. So bought the S60 - so much more comfortable.
Strengths: Seats, Seats, Seats. Power, handling, stereo. You can drive it fast or drive it slow it has a dual personallity.
Weaknesses: Engine not as smooth as others - but it does provide character to the car. Unusual operation of power door lock switch on door. Rear seat may be on the smaller size but I can fit very well being at 6 feet (The V70's rear seat is bigger) Maybe not as "sporty" as BMW etc. But when in traffic how sporty do you have to be? Handles as good a Jetta and other vehicles
