Review 1 of 10

Price Paid:  $40.00 from Walmart

Year / Model Reviewed:
2005 whistler 1730

Summary:
Works great! Best for the $$$. This is for people who are just going 10-15 over speed limit on flat roads.
I've had mine so long that I had to buy a new power cord off Ebay due to a short in it. Unit is still working wonderfully!

Strengths:
Great all the way around. Low $$$

Weaknesses:
Watch out for on /off radars!
Watch out while going over hills!

Review 3 of 10

Price Paid:  $23.00 from Schuck's Auto Suppli

Year / Model Reviewed:
new Whistler DE1730

Summary:
okey so far this thing hasn't saved my butt yet. i paid $23 for it new at Schucks. That same day i had one cop blairing his light n all and the thing didn't even beep! Later that night i drove straight past a hidden unmarked waiting and the dang thing didn't even go off! Mid-day i drove right past a State Patrol and quickly unpluged and hid the thing. What a piece of crap. The only time it goes off is when i drive past stores and hospitals. It was a rip off!!!

Strengths:
You get what you paid for! Can't get lost looking for a store w/auto doors it will find that for you....

Weaknesses:
Simply doesn't work!!!! Doesn't pickup up any po-crusiers!

Review 4 of 10

Price Paid:  $42.00 from Walmart

Year / Model Reviewed:
 2002/ Whistler 1730

Summary:
I think this radar detector is great for the price. It takes a while to get used to the range and limitations, but after the breakin period can be a useful tool to get the cops off your back....

Strengths:
Performs well when cops are stopped and using Ka,x, or K technology radar detectors. Will usually pickup the signal a good 1/4 mile to 1.5 miles away with increasing intensity as you get closer. Has saved my ass from many tickets...For long straight highway, this unit works awesome, will detect any cop easily. For the $$ you cant go wrong.

Weaknesses:
Of course laser technology is sometimes a problem with this detector, if the cops use the on and off function, user will have to learn that intermitten beeps does not mean the unit is malfunctioning, but simply picking up the random pulses. Took me a while to trust this....Also, for speed traps in roads with alot of hills, this unit does not detect well over the hills....you will be forced to slow down over the hills or suffer the consequences of a good ticket....This, is what seems to be this units biggest downfall!

Review 5 of 10

Price Paid:  $49.00 from Best Buy

Year / Model Reviewed:
 Whistler de1730

Summary:
I bought the de1730 mainly for trips back and forth from work and so far its worked fine..my first day it detected 2 Ka band equiped cruisers well outside of visual range(close to a 1/4mi.).And gets less False alerts than my previous more expensive detector. The LED lights are easy to learn 1 for X,1 for K and both for Ka also signal strength meter..don't worry about laser, its not common and cause no detector works well against it regardless of price! But the 1730 does have 360degree laser protection as well. The 1730 is fine if you only drift 10-15mph over the limit and don't do lots of open highway driving where you might need the added range of more expensive units..but the 1730 does work!

Strengths:
inexpensive, adequate range, works with the more difficult to detect Ka band.

Weaknesses:
VG2 mode has to be turned on manually other than that none for the price.
