Strength:

Looks! In the sports car tradition. Power! But then you should expect that at this price! Managable maintenance regime. Considering the sweeping lines of the car I have been very impressed with the size of the trunk too. We can easily get 2 small golf sets in the trunk.

Weakness:

A little thing, but I don''t think it would have been beyond the wit of the designers to install 2 coffee cup holders rather than just one! A ''fully'' automatic top would have been nice.

I have now driven the Z8 for just over 3 months having purchased the car from new. I am now certain I made the correct decision and now look forward to the journey. The car has power in spades as you would expect in a car like this - but it is also very well mannered in traffic. Don''t expect the car to come with the miriad of features that cars of this price often come with as this car is a "true" sports car in the traditional ethos. ..and those lines, oh, those lines! The other day a complete stranger in the parking lot thanked me for making his day a little bit better!

Strength:

Beautiful styling- pays homage to the classic roadsters of the 50's and 60's but not entirely derative. Fantastic engine, shifter, brakes. Has the "feel good" factor in spades. Interesting interior design backed up by excellent quality materials.

Weakness:

Strange dash layout- this isnt a huge weakness but it takes a little getting used to. People drop what they are doing and stare at you- or worse, they ask "how much"- this is due to the fantastic styling- but sometimes you dont want the attention. Handling is nimble, but the car skips over expansion joints in turns, probably due to the short wheelbase and run flat tires.

Overall this car hit the bulls eye for what BMW set out to do: showcase their technology in a shape that hints back to the classic 507. The weaknesses that are pointed out are minor ones. As to parking in public places, with a little care, Ive found I usually have no problem. Most people want to look and discuss the car a little. The Z8 would make a very competant daily driver, but as the previous poster stated, its really an in between mix of spports car and gt car and as such I could understand its ride being a little too hash for daily driving duties. I drove it every day for the first 2 months I had it and it was wonderful. The only thing it doesnt have as standard is sunscreen (youll need it!). Sometimes with large purchases the excitement wears off after a few weeks- not so here- as a matter of fact I think the car is capable of more as it breaks in (especially the engine). I think this is the kind of car that will reward the driver as the miles increase- and thats extremely rare in a sports car. If you are excited by the styling and find one at a price you deem to be reasonable, you would be foolish to pass it up.

Im giving the Z8 the highest rating for value and overall- although its hard to see the "value" in such an expensive car, it is very competitive compared to the other sports cars, such as Ferrari, that require several thousands of dollars per service.

Strength:

Quality. The fit and finish. The fact that it really is a limited production number. The sound of that engine at full throttle!

Weakness:

Door sills prone to scratches getting in and out. The built-in GPS is too cumbersome. Early editions prone to battery failure if car not driven at least once per week. Plastic dash panel. Plastic window in folding top.

A real throw-back, on the surface, to roadsters of the 50's. It has most of the modern conveniences, although I'd trade oil pressure and temperature guages for a built-in cell phone! Beautiful as it is, visually, it's impact is low key for the price. Fully equipped, the 911 Turbo will outrun it, but there's a certain "classiness" to it that should endure for decades.

Had an NSX. The "X" was finished as well, and was much less costly to maintain (plus it got 25mpg over the 9 years I had it). But we're talking 394hp with the Z8 compared to just over 275 for the X.

Strength:

It looks loverly. It's a lot of fun if you have never driven something like this. Love it to bits.

Weakness:

Being left hand drive.. I have to get-out to get parking tickets, pay tolls, and all of that. Wish the boot.. sorry trunk (), was just a tiny little bit bigger. The computers get in the way sometimes but then they save me lot's of rubber too..

I've had it for 2 months and I clipped the off-side alloys on a verge but other than that one worrying moment I have loved every minute of driving this car. Well.. except for being pulled over by the police, let's see, three times now. The think I'm speeding when in reality I'm just getting to the speed limit very quickly :)

I love the design. I love the engine. I love the folding roof (even though I DO live in London). But.. it's just a car and I park it in public (other posted was worried about that).. if it get's trashed it get's trashed but frankly people just stop and look.. walk round and round a couple of times.. smile and continue on their way.

All I need to do now is get that house in the South of France....

Strength:

Excellent GT aspects. The feel is solid and substantial with the famous BMW torgue curve that gives that excellent G force push back into the seat. Clean lines, clean and uncluttered interior and leather throughout. Major strength: irritates the hell out of people like another reviewer that doesn't have the ability to own one.

Weakness:

A little bit of identity crisis. Is it a roadster? Is it a GT? Is it a true sports car? Answer: a little of all, but not a whole lot of one in particular. Another weakness: can't be left in public places due to possible vandalism from immature jealous people (once again, see previous post).

Highly recommended if you can find one near list price (good luck in the U.S.) Also, the collector aspect is assured due to limited production numbers. As usual, care should be used when going anywhere in any fine car due to the risk of vandalism, an unfortunate by-product of the philosophy "if I can't have it, then I'm going to ruin it for them".
