Strength:

Solid body, so it;s safe. I got it used from a single owner with 93 K mils on it. IT handkes really really well. Solid feeling on the road at speeds upto 125mph (or so i've heard ;^) ) has the requisitie leather, sunroof, stick, nice stereo, ABS, dual climate control, and onboard computer that tells me good stuff like a taillight needs to be changed (BMW dealer did it free for me)or if oil or coolant ever become low...overall a really nice fast, well handling car with verylittle maintenance.

Weakness:

WEll...none i can think of. The ergonomics are not quite as good as Honda, but hey, they are pretty close. The seats are the best, as is the driving position and the transmission. The main problem i have (and it;s small i assure you) is that there is this dsmall gap between the front seeats and the console, and i keep getting coins in there, and it's hard to get them out. Other than that, no flaws.

well, suffice it to say i paid less than i would for a small new hyundai. And i love the car. I recommend it highly, as long as you know cars and are not the type top go to the first mechanic you see and get ripped off. If that;s the case, stay away from used german cars anyway....just buy a hyundai..:-)
I love the handling, the feeling od solid, low key luxury, the speed and handling, the little gizmos that make life so comfortable, the brakes, the seats, the sunroof, the smoothness of the stick shift....it;s all cool.

Model Reviewed: 528

Strength:

-this car handles like a dream (or more like a BMW)
-beautiful styling
-very luxurious (what do you expect from a $40k car?)

Weakness:

-not powerful enough for the money
-too expensive

I opted not to buy the 528 and instead chose the 9-5 SE. The Saab was faster, roomier and more comfortable. PLUS, it was cheaper! It may not handle as well as the BMW but then again, it's not supposed to be very sporty--it's a luxury-oriented car. Regardless, I would still prefer that my car handle like the 528 but oh well. Bottomline: on paper anyway, the 528 does not compare with the 9-5 SE on any grounds but especially not value. However, car buying is way more subjective than that and, admittedly, it was a very tough decision.

Strength:

Its as roomy as a 7 seven series, but its faster than an M3 or M roadster. I can take the family anwhere and still scare the bajesus out of them at the same time. Speed equaling a Ferrari F355

Weakness:

Doesn't come with one of the liscence plate holders that says " I'm a BADAZZ."

After a new super highflow tuned exhaust, new computer chip(only to take off 155mph limit), 19" wheels, custom BMW titanium-paint job and tint, an even faster(tough to beat) shifter, and some new rubber, I no longer need the BADAZZ liscence plate holder.

Strength:

Very fun, sporty drive. 6 speeds, decent gas mileage. Nice interior, roomy

Weakness:

Stereo system, bucket seats. no middle compartment, small glove box

The BMW is a great car to drive. Its fun and sporty. Great handling and turning radius. Gas mileage isn't bad if you are in the right gear at the right time. The interior is very nice and roomy. There is lots of room in both the front and back seat. But don't get the bucket seats. There is a seam going down the middle, it agitates my back. Also, the stereo system is not good. It has adjustible reverb, but it has no base, and sounds muffled. The one in my Jeep is a lot better. There is also no middle compartment between the front seats, and a very small glove box. But it's not that bad.
If you have the money, this is a good car for anyone. I would recommend it.

Model Reviewed: 528i

Strength:

Just purchased a BMW 528i black/black with sports premium package and steptronic auto. Also currently own a 97 Mercedes E-class and a 95 BMW 740i. Previously owned an 89 Mercedes 300e.

The 528i is a far sportier, far-better balanced and more enjoyable car to drive than the 740i. It also has a notably more solid/rigid body that, together with its more lithe dimensions, engenders more driving confidence. (Of course, if you are a back seat passenger, the 740i has to be one of the best cars out there).

The 528i is also a far better-handling, better-driving, better-built car than the Mercedes (the old E-class was better-built). The Mercedes irritates you with its Japanese-like character, its cheap plastic interior parts, its notchy shifter, its blunt steering devoid of road feel and its notable loss of character versus the older E-class. Sad to say, but here's a Mercedes, unlike all the others that preceded it, that's built to a price and that incorporates compromises.

The 528i on the other hand is a wonderfully balanced, beautifully-desgined car that is a joy to drive whose quality and utter integrity of design shines through and through. BMW and Mercedes have traded places; BMW is the class act; the (more expensive) E-class is a dumbed-down car.

Weakness:

Could have more rear interior space.

The best sports luxury sedan car in the world. Beats Mercedes E-class (I also own one at present, and the old model before that) hands-down

Model Reviewed: 535i 5speed

Strength:

Awesome Engine, Classic stlying, The fun of a 5 speed in a 4 door semi-sports sedan. The car is old enough that it isn't completely electronic so a normal human can fix it, but it has all the necessary features for today, power everything, heated seats, full function trip computer, great abs brakes, cd changer. My car has 157,000 miles, and still runs perfect, smooth, and always starts right up. This is historically bmw's best engine ever built.

Weakness:

Well, the interior door trims seem to fall out with age, the way the water drains in the doors,it gets held in the bottom of the door trim and can cause problems. The cooling/heating system isn't the best, but it's not automatic, so there is less room for it to break, simple knobs and switches.

I would recomend this as a great used car for someone. Its sporty and the stlye from is current up till 1996,so a pristine '89 model can be mistaken for even a new or almost new car. The handling on these cars is great, and the power on the 535 is plenty. Watch out for the 530i and 540i, they are also good cars, but the V8's from '93-'95 can go bad do to the sulfur content in the US gasoline reacting to the cylinder walls of the engine. bmw recognizes this and offers a free replacement for up to 6 years and 100,000 miles, but not all cars have had the new engines. I would recommend the 535 and 525 for sure, and don't be afraid of high mileage, especially on the 535, you can get a great car with high mileage for cheap, just remember, the car cost 45,000+ new, so you have to pay to maintain an expensive car.

Similar Products Used:

Mercedes 300E, various models. THe mercedes feels much heavier on the road, and build quality is probably a bit better. It doesn't have the sporty feel of the bmw, but the '93 and up with the 24 valve I6 is definetly faster than than the 535i and will blow away a 525i.

Very Powerfull engine, with a very comfortable ride. The trnasmission (six speed man.) is more fun then a box of toys.

Weakness:

Climate control is way to complicated, and difficult to adjust. The car is a little bit heavy in the corners.

2 year lease
I would recomend this car for anyone who is looking for a 4 door stealth rocket. If you dont mind seeing a 40 year old lady driving a very similar looking car in the slow lane this car is great. The power of the V-8 is simply the best available.
