Model Reviewed: 525 I Wagon Sports Premium Package + Nav

Strength:

Handles beautifully, sounds awesome, Sports Premium Package sticks it to the ground, Great sound system, and the navigation system works great.

Weakness:

None but the fact it is not a 540.

WOW what a ride!!! I have ridden in European cars before, but BMW does have the ultimate driving machine. It runs like a dream. I only wish they a 540 wagon ready, I would have taken it in a heartbeat. We drive the car for 400 miles, get out and feel as though we have not gone anywhere, it is very confortable. Worth the money. We got in Alpine white, it definitely has eyes.

Similar Products Used:

Audi Allroad: Liked it a lot, powerful and handled good, but wife preferred the BWW
SAAB 95 AEro Wagon: Good engine but looks too much like a GM car inside.
Volvo V70XC: Volvo is not for me...too uggly
Mercedes E320 Wagon: Did not like one thing about it, even the price sucked.

Strength:

Driving Comfort and handling.
Quality for the most part compared to north american made cars.
Oil change every 15,000 KM or almost 10,000 miles. Maintenance intervals is less than other leased vehicles and overall less in price.

Weakness:

Cup Holders suck, both front and back.
No storage capacity in the car for items such as parking passes, mail box keys, 407 transponder, etc.

My wifes car, but have driven it quite often. Extremely reliable. 90% highway driving and averages around 9Litres/100KM (30MPG Canadian or 25MPG U.S.) Very comfortable. No major problems in almost three years. Have had a few bad experiences with the dealership service. Likely due to my wife taking it in and they don't seem to pay the same respect to a female as they do a male. Car is coming off lease and has almost 40,000KM or 24,000 miles over the lease limit. Our penality is alomst $8,000 and they will not cover any piece of it for a trade in, even if we were to buy a X5 that we were looking at. So looks like we will buy it and possibly look at purchasing an Acura MDX to cover the difference. Too bad, really liked the test drive of the X5. Can't believe they are willing to lose a customer because their bottom line will only be about $2,000 profit compared to $10,000. Oh well, think they are getting too comfortable and need a knock up side the head.

Similar Products Used:

BMW 328 IA-328 was much quicker. But 528 more comfortable and bigger.
2000-Nissan Maxima GLE-Maxima is quicker and larger interrior with more room for junk. Has a 200WATT Bose sound system, but I don't think it is as good as the one in the BMW.

Strength:

v8 engine, handling, speed, sporty and elegant style, gets girls, ....

OVERALL, IT'S A BMW AND THEY KICK ASS!!!!

Weakness:

NO CUPHOLDERS. once you drive it for a while, parts break and repairing is expensive. if you want to have one, don't be caught short on money to repair.

this car gives a very smooth ride and is easy to handle. the unique style of bmw is definitely a plus and this car makes you look sophisticated.

Model Reviewed: 525ia

Strength:

Ride quality, looks (sport/premium), handling, engine growl, steptronic transmission, solidly built

Weakness:

BRAKE DUST(to the 10th power), lack of storage, too few standard features,
cleaning the light alloys is definitely time consuming and should be done frequently, marginal stereo...expensive.

Whew! I almost bought a Saab 9-5 SE. As fate would have it, I made one last venture into Hendrick BMW and actually test drove a 525ia (anthracite w/ sand leather, convenience, sport/premium pkgs., zenons and in dash CD) which I bought the next day. This was after weeks of research and walking the lots.

I was a little apprehensive about selecting the sport package due to my vast amount of city and interstate driving. My concern was the trade off in ride comfort in order to maximize the " driving experience". True, one can feel the road and its imperfections, however, it isn't that obvious. The looks/handling features of the sport/premium pkg. is, IMHO, the only way to go.

Similar Products Used:

Saab 9-5 SE....nice car, terrific features for what you pay for the car, but ultimately did not pass the test question...will I enjoy driving this car after the "new" wears off? Drive a Bimmer through the mountains or on a curvy stretch of asphalt and this will address most of your unanswered questions. It is truly a driver's car.

Strength:

fun to drive. A 70,000 car for 15,000 after repairs. WOW!

Weakness:

seat cables wear out, windows need adjusting, driveshafts go at 100,000 miles(on my 740 also...), front shocks, and aux. fan. These things you can count on replacing. But am I complaining? NOT on your life.

Car was in great shape..bought it from a doctor who didn't really care about price (ie he sold it cheap).

The beauty is the engine had been recalled (like most 93-94's) so it had fewer than 50,000 miles on it. There are many out there..check it out

A couple of grand (new driveshaft, shocks, tires) and it's like new.

Similar Products Used:

740i way more fun.
