Good looks.....This car is an eye catcher, nice looking interior as well. Lot's of options.

UN-freakin-RELIABLE!!!!! Third week this car was in the shop. The cabin began making funny noises. Repair costs ended up being absolutely pathetic. Also, it is a gas guzzler. Worst of all though, the car is simply a MONEY PIT. If you have to have one, you had better have millions in the bank to be prepared to spend on repairs

OKAY.. I had this car for a period of two months. Then, i gave it back to the dealer. I went down to the lexus dealership and kicked myself in the ass for not starting there. Lexus is a much more reliable vehicle. It looks great- ESPECIALLY ON THE INSIDE!! Has nearly every option imaginable. More than that though, the LEXUS is known as a reliable car. And thus far, it has been. It is ten times quieter and smoother than the BMW was. If you are looking for a true luxurious car which covers everything from good looks, to performance, to reliability, than I would suggest that you look to Lexus. I read several of the reviews on the BMW 7 series from this site, and caught some knucklehead saying that Lexus = P.o.S. and that they are nothing more than refined Toyotas. I don't quite think that he will be saying that in another couple of months when his BMW is broken down on the side of the road. He will probably wish he had done something like me. Do your self a favor and test drive the LS 430 before you buy that bimmer. Trust Me!

I am totally hooked up to the car, inside out. The exterior is sleek and mean without being overdone or flamboyant. The sport package makes it even better. Only S430/S500 Sport can match it in this catogory. Once inside, the engine/tranny is the best combination I've ever experienced. With a slight pressure on the gas pedal the tranny kick down for instant pulling, accompanied with the roar of a big V8. Steering is BMW's specialty and you have to drive one to believe.

LS430 does everything too good to be exciting. S430 sport is too slow. S500 sport is ok but the new dashboard design doesn't ring a bell. New Q45? overstyled.

Overall styling and performance. City to racetrack with no hitch in the git along. So far it has been completely reliable. Comfort is huge. Ease of driveability is at the top. Versatility surpasses all.

Some of the extras should be standard. Like headlite wipers, parking distance control. Overall it is hard to find a weakness in the machine itself.

Ultimate Driving Machine, yes, but they missed something, it is the Ultimate Driving Experience. This car is just as happy doing 65MPH on HWY 101 as it is rockin and rollin down HWY 1 at 5 MPH to 120MPH in seconds. The comfort and control is unmatched. In a very short time I have become one with this machine. There are cars faster or more comfortable but none wrap it all up like this one does. It demands and deserves respect, and it gets it. I have had numerous comments made to me about how others wish they could own one. This car was at the top of my price range but I couldn't be happier to make that monthly payment.

Sports car-like performance, sharp reflexes, incredible driving experience, and of course, the snob appeal of a BMW.

Quality, reliability,and customer service. Replaced tires (recall), radio, seat controls, steering wheel control, differential, motion sensor. Worse, some of these repairs took multiple visits.

If you look at my review on 12/21/01, you'll see I had just purchased the car and was ecstatic about it. My how times have changed. In the seven months I've owned this car, it has been back to the shop 8 times for a wide variety of faults. What is worse, the stereotype of BMW and Mercedes dealerships is true. They have proved to be arrogant, condecending, and incapable of fixing this car. My frustration reached the point of overflow and this week I will pick up a new Lexus LS430. I will miss the sports car performance of the 740, but very little else. Maybe I'm crazy, but when I spend $60,000 plus on a car, I expect reliability, impeccable quality, and exceptional customer service. BMW delivered none of these. I dreamed of owning the 740 for a long time, and unfortunately, it became a nightmare. I hope the Lexus lives up to expectations.

(2000 Model) -  The 740i has amazing power it put out over 310 horses and has a 0-60 time of only 5.8 secconds(Ive tried it!)It now competes with the mercades S400, Audi A8, Volvo S70 (850), and the Lexus LS400. I am amazed with this car!

I can deal with the cup holders - but they really suck! Also I need a 4wd luxo sedan. I have a Explorer limited to use in the snow. So I can still deal with it.

Excellent car. Really. I always wanted a MB sl500 but I test drove a 740il because the prices were great. The car was an absolute winner. I am looking forward to buying a used 2001 M3 in 2003 or another 740il or 750il.

Absolutely gorgeous classy, understated styling. (compared to "whitebread" Japanese and MBZ. The best SPORTS sedan available. Solid feel, great brakes, performance, safety, reliability (sofar). The car is very roomy (also in the back) but does not feel big.

Cup holders look like afterthought. Seats (I have activecomfort) should have more lateral bolstering. Nav system sometimes slow to update (should be DVD) Slight lag in acceleration when stepped on while at speed. Trunk space barely adequate for 4 persons on (long) vacation. Steering has too much assist (too light, should have individually selectable assist.
Steering wheel feels too thin for a sports sedan.

I took European delivery and put 5500 miles on it in Europe (in 1 month). Car just arrived in US last week For Europe the car is too big. For European delivery you should definitely consider parking sensing option. I had no problems at all and travelled with 4 people. The navigation system was of enormous help in large inner cities like Madrid, with plenty of one way streets. I pushed it up to 130mph before the US cut out came in and it felt like it was on rails, very stable. My wife does not like to go fast but she found 110 "comfortable". Voice recognition for nav system and phone comes in very handy. There are more luxurius cars in its class (Lexus) but it is just not the same. I found MBZ too much like Japanese styling lacking character. I'll update in the future.

Engine, acceleration, seat,Voice activated phone, gadgets, car has "Class". Comes loaded, dont have to run up an option list.

Nav system is weak at best. Can't toggle for call waiting om hands free. Wish that headlights would go on automatically at night. Get the CD out of the trunk.

Awesome. I shopped for weeks. This car gets better each time I drive it. Was thinking of a GS 430, which is a great car, this car, puts it to shame. Must get the sport package. handles like a dream. Since Warrenty is for 40 k miles, and maintenance is free, how can people complain about the cost of repairs? The only thing you pay for are tires... Not the car for the "It's just a car wife", this car needs to be enjoyed and driven
